Data Engineer - Meteorology

Data Engineer - Meteorology We are looking for an experienced Data Engineer with expertise in Meteorology to enhance our next-generation commodity technology platform. Responsibilities: Develop research and trading applications using Python and AWS technologies. Create and maintain data pipeline architecture. Extract, transform, and load data from various sources using Python and SQL. Provide users access to datasets using REST and Python APIs. Analyze and manage large datasets from market and alternative data vendors. Develop high-resolution NWP models for short-term power desks. Communicate data insights to investment teams and develop visualization dashboards. Back test datasets to assess their correlation to company KPIs. Mandatory Requirements: 3+ years’ experience with a Masters or 5+ years with a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems, Meteorology, or related field. 2+ years of professional experience with Python application development or data analysis libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, etc. Knowledge of meteorological variables, concepts, and industry-standard practices. Experience with weather data types such as GRIB, NetCDF, and Zarr. Proficient in writing SQL queries and hands-on experience with ETL processes. Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Requirements: Experience in financial institutions, preferably in commodities. Familiarity with quantitative finance and electronic trading concepts. Familiarity with AWS technologies (S3, Athena, SQS, Batch, Lambda). Experience with DevOps practices (Docker/Kubernetes).
