Role Overview:
We’re building the next generation of innovative digital products in our industry, and we’re looking for an energetic, proactive Senior Director of Product Design to help lead the charge. We’re looking for a dedicated player-coach who can execute a strategic vision for NYL, building and connecting a portfolio of digital products used by consumers and NYL agents into one seamless, intuitive experience. The Senior Director will manage a team of Directors of Product Design dedicated to the end-to-end design of digital products in our Value Streams (outcome-based departments) notably Purchase Experience (application, account opening) and Service Experience (customer- and agent-facing policy and account servicing).
You’ll be collaborating extensively to not only craft help individual cutting-edge, user-centered digital product experiences, but also connect end-to-end digital experiences and other multi-channel experiences within and across the Value Streams for our customers and agents. This leadership position has a tremendous impact on our business and plays a crucial role in the NYL ecosystem.
This role will also contribute to the growth and maturity of digital product design capability including maturing processes, establishing professional growth and advancement pathways, nurturing a design culture, and providing coaching and mentorship, and advocating for the value of design in the organization.

What You’ll do:
Design Strategy, Research, and Concepting
Direct the vision for an integrated digital product experience: Lead dedicated Value Stream Product Design Directors and partner with other Senior Directors to build design strategies in support overall business and experience goals with human-centered design
Partner with other design peers to deliver insight-driven design: Guide user and design research (quant and qual), research methodologies and artifacts (e.g., interview guides, diary study journals/capture, etc.), and present insights to stakeholders
Co-create with product design/UX/UI partners: Design concepts across the spectrum of fidelities, storyboards, prototypes, and other visual storytelling mediums to articulate the integrated direction of key digital experiences
Establish integrated measures of success: Develop benchmark and innovative experience and design measures that help prove our integrated digital products deliver on business KPIs/OKRs and user needs
Manage a portfolio of digital product design delivery
Deliver end-to-end, cradle-to-grave digital product designs: Lead product design directors in the full spectrum of product design activities for all life stages of our digital products
Nurture a productive and trusting environment: Enable a creative, productive, and trusting environment for Directors and other designers to do their best work
Facilitate compelling storytelling: Craft and coach others in the execution of compelling narratives and storytelling for a range of audiences and seniority levels
Manage a portfolio of digital product design execution: Manage staffing/capacity, reporting, risk management across multiple teams/projects including those delivered by external agency partners and contractors
Within and cross-value stream strategies
Lead projects to create seamless products: With other Senior Directors and Directors, lead cross-product and cross-value stream projects to optimize the holistic experience of our digital products and multi-channel experiences to ensure seamless flows for consumers, agents, and other key users
Create alignment on cross-product, cross-value stream enablers: Partner with design system/ops leaders, data leaders, and content strategy leaders to facilitate guidelines for consistent cross-product design and content
Partner with product leaders: Collaborate on digital product integration and platform decisions throughout the lifecycle to integrate product experiences
Leadership and collaboration
Partner with senior leadership for delivery: Partner widely with department and program leadership, implementation managers, product managers and owners, engineering, and others in the large-scale, multi-year implementation and in-year accelerated MVP delivery
Lead well-structured facilitation and workshops: Structure and facilitate meetings, workshops, and brainstorming sessions to co-create design strategy related deliverables
Partner with design leadership: Collaborate closely across NYL with designers, product managers, production team, and program and business leaders to execute projects and maintain alignment on strategic directions

Expert understanding of human-centered design principles, interaction design, visual design, and user experience.
A bachelor's in a relevant field such as Design, Interaction Design, Fine arts, or a related discipline (Master’s degree preferred). Equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
Your design experience:
At least 15 years in design strategy, design leadership or a related field with consumer facing and B2B digital experiences
At least 10 years in digital product design, including a track record of shipping high quality digital designs for a range of personas and a range of digital product types (e.g., responsive web, apps, portals, etc.)
At least 8 years of managerial experience leading managers of managers
Experience with managing multiple projects in a fast-paced, very deadline-driven environment
Your technical abilities include:
A successful track record of shipping digital experience designs in a Scaled Agile (SAFe) environment across a range of front-ends and platforms (e.g., content management systems, low/no-code platforms, framework-based front ends, native apps)
Expert understanding of technical architecture including service-oriented architecture and micro-services, data models, and front-end programming (e.g., HTML, CSS)
Mastery of design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Adobe Creative Suite) and digital whiteboard/facilitation tools (e.g., Figjam, Miro)
Your leadership and communication style:
Ability to build relationships with stakeholders: Ability to quickly develop strong relationships with stakeholders, internal teams, and external partners and facilitate and maintain alignment on complex interests.
Superior communication skills: Ability to leverage your expert communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and executives.

Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual’s experience, skills, qualifications, and job location.
