Location: Lorton, Virginia Job Type: Full-Time Salary Salary: $114,039.74 - $199,569.55 Annually Job Number: 25-00044 Department: DPWES Wastewater Management Opening Date: 01/04/2025 Closing Date: 01/31/2025 11:59 PM Eastern Description: Do you enjoy solving environmental challenges to optimize the recycling of 40 million gallons of wastewater each day? Join Fairfax County's award-winning Wastewater Management Team responsible for protecting public health and the region’s water quality. We seek a Wastewater Treatment Division Director with proven experience in leadership and managing water recycling. Responsibilities include: Ensuring the successful operation of the Noman M. Cole, Jr. Water Recycling Facility, 24/7. Implementing programs required by federal, state, and local regulations. Ensuring compliance with permit limits and collaborating with regulatory authorities. Planning business objectives and developing organizational policies. Selecting and managing teams at every level of the organization. Overseeing fund expenditures to protect facilities and employee well-being. Representing Noman Cole as a subject matter expert. Coaching and mentoring employees to ensure efficient performance. Coordinating major capital renewal projects with construction management staff. Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in civil, sanitary, chemical engineering or a related field. Nine years of increasingly responsible engineering experience relating to the design and operation of wastewater treatment plants, including three years in a supervisory capacity. Certificates and Licenses Required: A valid driver's license. Waste Management Facility Operator's License Class I within 12 months of hire. Necessary Special Requirements: The appointee will be required to complete a criminal background check, credit check, a pre-employment physical examination, and driving record check. Preferred Qualifications: 15+ years of experience with wastewater utilities or environmental regulation. Licensure as a professional engineer in a relevant field. 10+ years collaborating with regulatory authorities. 5+ years leading and managing teams to achieve business objectives. Physical Requirements: Ability to drive a county vehicle and communicate clearly with staff and customers. Ability to visit and walk construction sites and use personal protective equipment as required. Selection Procedure: Panel interview may include an exercise.
