Mechanical Project Engineer 1
in our Kansa City, MO office
The Mechanical Project Engineer 1 will lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for low to moderate complexity projects and collaborate with senior staff for the delivery of larger and high complexity projects. They will be responsible for working closely with a team of engineers and consultants to provide engineering solutions and advice to clients to ensure positive outcomes. Primary responsibilities will include engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for the vertical building industry. This position will be expected to work within the project's monetary budget, train, mentor, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.
Principal Responsibilities
Lead design efforts for the analysis of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems. Utilize engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards
Interact with clients to understand their needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information effectively. Build and maintain client relationships through professional communication
Work as part of a project team to support the execution of consulting projects. Lead efforts in project planning, budgeting, and scheduling tasks to meet project deadlines and objectives. Document design decisions and instructions from clients while monitoring project design progress as related to percent complete and fee expended.
Analyze engineering problems and propose innovative solutions. Collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical and efficient solutions
Provide in-process design reviews of HVAC, plumbing and fire protection system design, calculations, and specifications. Implement IMEG quality control processes to ensure that engineering designs and solutions meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards and client requirements
Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in mechanical engineering. Contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG
Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work. Identify and mitigate potential safety risks associated with mechanical systems
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including other engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals
Identify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project Manager
Oversee projects through bidding and construction administration phase
Required Skills/Abilities
Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
Strong technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics relating to mechanical design in HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems
Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff
Proficiency of industry standard engineering software and tools including HVAC load calculation software
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
Proficiency in the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) software
Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays
Education and Experience
Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent required
Professional Engineer (PE) License required
2 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry (years of experience may vary based on state license qualifications)

Physical Requirements
Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds.
Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull.
Will have limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises.
