Job Description Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Medical-Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: RN License Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: COVID Vaccine
Description: The unit consists of 36 beds. Patient ratios are 1:4 or 1:5. Unit staffing includes a secretary every day and PRN techs. Equipment used includes PD Cyclers, Welch Allyn VS Carts, Hoyer Lift, Broda Chairs, and Alaris IV Pumps. Documentation is done using the Meditech system. Scheduling requires four weekend shifts in a four-week block. Floating policy includes floating over core staff as necessary. Patient experience focuses on bedside shift reports, safety checks every 1-2 hours, and effective communication and responsiveness. The unit can serve as an overflow non-ICU COVID unit during community surges. Candidates should be able to perform basic patient assessments and manage wounds, tracheostomy, ostomy, drains, chest tubes, strokes, and seizures. The patient population may sometimes require dialysis or PCA pumps, with Heparin being the only drip administered. Post-op procedures include amputations, ostomy management, drains, chest tubes, oral surgeries, and wound vacs. The dress code is scrubs in navy, blue, white, black, gray, or ceil blue. HAI prevention includes CVC and Foley monitoring with standard precautions. Fall prevention measures are in place. 100% medication scanning is mandatory, including for controlled substances. Teamwork is highly valued with a focus on enhancing patient outcomes. The team is described as great, youthful, and eager to complete tasks. Charges and leadership are supportive and experienced, ensuring a smooth introduction to the unit. All candidates will be treated on par with core staff and held accountable and recognized for their work.
