The Role The Sr. Director, KOL Engagement is a key leadership role in Moderna’s U.S. Commercial Marketing team, responsible for developing and executing engagement strategies with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and Digital Opinion Leaders (DOLs) to drive advocacy and enhance Moderna’s reputation in the healthcare community. This role will partner closely with cross-functional teams, including Medical Affairs, Market Access, and Field Operations, to support high-impact initiatives that build trust, support product education, and create strong advocacy networks. The Sr. Director will leverage scientific insights, innovative digital tactics, and strategic relationships to drive Moderna's commercial objectives in the U.S. market. Here’s What You’ll Do Lead the development of KOL engagement strategy, aligning with broader commercial objectives and specific product and therapeutic area goals. Build, maintain, and deepen relationships with key opinion leaders and external stakeholders in the healthcare ecosystem. Collaborate with Medical Affairs to ensure scientific integrity in KOL interactions, supporting compliant and meaningful engagement that drives product awareness and education. Identify and engage influential KOLs to participate in advisory boards, speaker programs, and peer-to-peer engagements, ensuring effective representation and thought leadership. Work cross-functionally to align KOL engagement efforts with Market Access, Clinical, Field Medical, and Sales to create a cohesive and impactful KOL strategy. Develop and execute strategic initiatives to support KOL involvement in congresses, symposia, and other scientific forums. Act as a primary point of contact for KOLs, ensuring consistent communication and responsiveness to inquiries and opportunities. Monitor and assess KOL engagement impact and gather feedback to continuously refine and optimize the engagement strategy. Stay current with trends, scientific developments, and competitive activities to inform the KOL strategy and maintain a robust engagement plan. Here’s What You’ll Need (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., life sciences, marketing, business). Minimum 15 years of progressive marketing experience in the biopharma or life sciences industry, with at least 5 years dedicated to KOL engagement, particularly in leading strategies that build and deepen relationships with key opinion leaders across new and established markets. Demonstrated experience in developing and managing relationships with key opinion leaders or similar high-level stakeholders in healthcare. Strong knowledge of U.S. healthcare regulations, compliance, and best practices related to KOL engagement. Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications) Advanced degree (PhD, MD, PharmD, or equivalent) preferred, with significant experience in a similar role in biopharma or life sciences. Proven track record of building and managing relationships with KOLs and thought leaders within the healthcare industry. Deep understanding of the pharmaceutical landscape, with specific knowledge of the therapeutic areas Moderna is focused on. Strong cross-functional leadership skills and the ability to work effectively across multiple teams, including Medical Affairs, Sales, and Market Access. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex scientific information in a clear and impactful manner. Strategic mindset with a proactive approach to identifying opportunities and potential challenges. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and to pivot in response to changing business needs and priorities.
