ABOUT LAWS
Founded in 1984, LAWS is a 501c3, non-profit organization that has earned an outstanding reputation for delivering safe-haven and a host of essential services to adults and children directly impacted by domestic and sexual violence. LAWS' mission is to serve adults and children who are victims of domestic violence and sexual assault; to empower, inform, and advocate for these individuals; to educate the community about domestic violence and sexual assault; and, to work towards the elimination of personal and societal violence. LAWS' strives to offer a framework of comprehensive support services to victims of domestic and sexual violence so that they may live free from fear, anxiety, and danger.
Every year, LAWS' staff of approximately 35 professionals, a committed group of volunteers, and a diverse Board comprised of community and business leaders, work to enhance the lives of the approximately 1,000 adult and child victims of domestic and sexual violence here in Loudoun County. Today, in addition to operating a 24/7, emergency shelter for adult and child victims, LAWS also delivers an array of services to include a 24-hour hotline, counseling, legal resources, support groups, a Child Advocacy Center, and community outreach programming. All services are provided with complete confidentiality, and at no cost to recipients. Additionally, LAWS operates a retail thrift shop (The Resourceful Woman) in downtown Leesburg, VA.

THE DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT ROLE
The Director of Development will design, develop, and implement a comprehensive development and fundraising roadmap that supports LAWS mission and service offerings. The Director of Development reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer, and is responsible for creating and executing LAWS strategic development plan. The development plan will thoughtfully consider various giving channels to include: corporate and individual major gifts, planned giving, annual appeal, special event fundraising, private grants, affiliate fundraising initiatives, and other revenue streams (i.e. cause marketing). This position will principally focus on development and fundraising activities within the greater Loudoun County area.

- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, or associated degree.
- 5 years in direct development role within a non-profit organization.
- Five plus (5+) years of progressive professional experience empowering individuals through fundraising, event participation, volunteerism, and corporate partnerships.
- Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to achieve Development goals and objectives.
- Prior participation in strategic planning as relates to organizational fundraising programs.
- Will possess demonstrated ability as a front-line fundraiser.
- Must have outstanding oral and written communication skills. Adept at presenting and public speaking.
- Must have the ability to present LAWS' compelling mission in a manner that resonates with different demographic groups.
- Must be a self-starter who possesses initiative and independence. Must be effective at working in a highly collaborative manner.
- Master's degree in business, Marketing, or related field
- One year experience in the human services field
- Direct experience with Capital Campaigns
- Demonstrated experience engaging and recruiting individuals to support 501(c)(3) LAWS organization.
- Demonstrated ability to mobilize and motivate individuals to achieve goals.
- Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for growth in external institutional and donor relationships.
- An unparalleled commitment to raising awareness relative to domestic, sexual violence, dating violence, stalking, and child abuse in Loudoun County and in America.
- Natural desire and ability to nurture and sustain long-term donor relationships.
- Ability to manage numerous fundraising campaigns simultaneously and demonstrated ability to adapt and adjust priorities
