Duties As a provider of care, the Deputy ACOS, MHCL is a credentialed and privileged Licensed Independent Practitioner with the appropriate training, who will establish and maintain therapeutic relationships and exercise professional judgment to provide treatment for Veterans and will provide approximately 10% direct patient care. This care may include direct services to selected patients and/or selected treatment programs; diagnostic interviews, assessments, psychotherapy, and case management to Veterans; provide behavioral expertise and education; assess the need for referral for additional services of mental health clients; coordinate with providers within MHCL and TVHS when other care is involved. Discipline specific clinical knowledge and administrative knowledge of mental health clinic settings is required. This includes knowledge of contemporary behavioral science theories and practice including evidence-based practices and techniques. The incumbent must possess the analytical ability to research, assemble, and compile information and data, evaluate the results against appropriate standards, and recommend corrective action where indicated. The position requires an ability to plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set, and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work. Works with the ACOS of Mental Health in decision-making authority, responsibility and accountability on all issues affecting the MHCL. He/she collaborates with operations and Section/Program Managers to ensure integrated goals and priorities for the MHCL are established and met. He/she also works closely with peers in other services and management to meet the needs of the medical center's recognized customer groups. He/she is responsible to ensure all trainee program mandates are met in coordination with Site Directors and Program Coordinators, internally and externally. The incumbent is knowledgeable of overall VA, VISN, and medical center goals, missions, and priorities to assure a positive impact on programs and resources. He/she serves as Acting ACOS of Mental Health in the absence of the ACOS of Mental Health. Responsible for the successful performance of the MH programs as assigned. This responsibility includes the overall effectiveness of operations; including, Inpatient and Outpatient care, mental health services in the community-based clinics, patient/customer satisfaction, quality of services provided, efficiency of service delivery and effective resources management. Responsible for discipline, hiring, performance appraisals and supervision of MH staff as assigned.
