The Role: As a member of our Hardware team, you'll be contributing to the prototyping, design, analysis, modeling, verification and validation of our current and next generation robotics systems. From rapid prototyping to detailed development, you'll have the opportunity to work on many aspects of our surgical robots and instrumentation.

What you'll do:
  • Participate in prototype development and testing, including creation of detailed design outputs and technical documentation
  • Assist in the design, development, and testing of mechanical components
  • Participate in the research and development phases of electromechanical projects featuring sensors, actuators, control systems and surgical instruments
  • Participate in the execution and documentation of test protocols
  • Assist in design and development of testing processes, with specific focus on relevant and meaningful metrics to harmonize equipment verification and desired performance
  • Effectively work with cross-functional teams including mechanical, software and electrical engineers as well as clinical, project management, product development and marketing staff


What you'll bring:
  • Pursuing a BS, MS or Ph.D degree in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with graduation expected within 1 year of internship duration
  • Must have portfolio demonstrating relevant experience and projects
  • Strong understanding of mechanical or electrical design and electromechanical systems
  • Exposure to biomedical engineering principles preferred
  • Excellent problem solving skills with the ability to solve complex challenges
  • Self-starter with excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • Demonstrate one or more of the following:

  • Familiarity with mechanical CAD (Solidworks preferred)
  • Familiarity with electrical schematics capture and board layout
  • Familiarity with rapid prototyping and hands-on mechanical assembly
  • Familiarity with medical robotics and automation
  • Familiarity with design controls and medical device regulations

  • This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
  • This is a full-time position with the expectation of a standard 40hr work week.
  • This position requires up to 10% travel. Frequently travel is outside the local area and overnight.
  • This job operates in a professional office/manufacturing/clinical environment.

  • Ability to lift/push/carry items up to 50 pounds
  • Frequent exposure to loud/moderate noise


Internships are intended for Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. students expecting to graduate within 1 year of the internship. Internships generally run from June through August for approximately 13 weeks in spring, summer, or fall of 2025. Interns are typically full-time and work up to 40 hours per week. We can be flexible with timeline, length, and schedule based on your needs, and we are open to internships during fall and spring. We welcome future engineers studying in the fields of Robotics, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.
