Job Description: Legal Assistant
Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to join our dynamic legal team. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive administrative and clerical support to a group of attorneys. This role requires strong word processing skills, familiarity with electronic court filings (ECF), and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Word Processing and Document Management:
- Draft, edit, and format legal documents, correspondence, and forms with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Manage document execution, including obtaining signatures and ensuring compliance with filing requirements.
- Maintain organized filing systems for electronic and physical documents.
- Court Filings and Communication:
- Prepare and submit electronic court filings (ECF) in accordance with local, state, and federal court requirements.
- Handle paper filings when necessary, ensuring deadlines and procedural accuracy are met.
- Communicate with courts, clients, and opposing counsel as needed to coordinate filings and resolve inquiries.
- Administrative Support:
- Answer phone calls, manage attorney calendars, and schedule meetings or court appearances.
- Monitor and manage deadlines, ensuring all tasks are completed in a timely manner.
- Coordinate travel arrangements and maintain expense reports for attorneys.
- Team Collaboration:
- Serve as a point of contact for attorneys, clients, and court personnel.
- Collaborate with other administrative staff to ensure the office runs smoothly.
Qualifications and Skills:
- 2-10 years of experience as a legal assistant or in a similar role.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other relevant software.
- Knowledge of electronic court filing systems (e.g., PACER, state-specific platforms).
- Strong typing skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Preferred Attributes:
- Familiarity with legal terminology and court procedures.
- Prior experience supporting multiple attorneys or working in a law firm setting.
