This Southern California facility located in Paramount; CA is the world's first large-scale sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) facility. It highlights Air Products commitment to energy transition and supports California's decarbonization by producing renewable fuels. We are seeking a Process Engineer who is responsible for providing technical guidance on operating units within our refinery that maintains and improves the safety, environmental standards and operating costs.

This role plans, directs, and coordinates activities concerned with design, modification, optimization and operation of process equipment in the Refinery by performing the following duties personally or by coordinating the activities with operations, and maintenance and contract personnel. This position is a key in establishing and promoting a collaborative culture focused on safe, environmentally compliant, reliable, and optimized operations. This role evaluates process unit operating performance, implements recommendations for optimization, and supports capital improvements in support of long-term sustainable performance.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Provide process engineering and technical support to production units, environmental activities, and plant projects to improve unit operations, process safety and environmental performance.
  • Monitor unit operations, optimize the unit, correct unit problems, and assist in improvements to yield, cost, and reliability.
  • Supports continuous operation, including assistance during operational upsets or turnarounds.
  • Develops and implements process control schemes and control techniques.
  • Supports environmental compliance by supporting environmental calculations, establish operating parameters, providing input into permit development, and providing accurate data as required.
  • Support turnaround and unit shutdown planning and execution through participation in scope development, providing justification for work items, and providing technical support during shutdown/startup and outages, including reviewing operating procedures.
  • Provide process design data for potential refinery improvements, expansions, and compliance projects.
  • Maintain heat and material balances on assigned units.
  • Awareness of process safety management, including capability to lead management of change efforts.
  • Develop relationships with technology and catalyst vendors.
  • REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree (or higher) from a 4-year college or university in Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum seven to ten (7 - 10) years of process engineering experience is required.
  • Refinery or petrochemical industry experience preferred
  • Hydrotreating/Hydrocracking experience preferred
  • Process simulation experience (Pro II / HYSYS) preferred


This is a safety sensitive position. Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery and be able to physically perform all tasks in the field. The role is onsite at the Paramount, CA location with a standard 5/8 schedule Monday-Friday. This role supports 24/7 operations, and after-hours support is required approximately once per month.

In California, the expected pay range is $137,470 - $198,650, plus Company bonus. This is the pay range that we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
