Location Simpson Querrey Biomedical Research Center Job Description Performs anatomic laboratory procedures of a routine and specialized nature including histology, cytology, and immunohistochemistry. Essential Job Functions: Performs histological procedures and policies in the laboratory. Identifies source and nature of test problems and makes appropriate recommendations as to the course of action. Performs specimen accessioning, tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, frozen section techniques, special stains, and immunohistochemistry staining techniques. Applies scientific method in problem solving and assists in the evaluation of new methods and techniques. Assures that quality control criteria are met and adheres to established laboratory policies in handling hazardous substances. Records necessary documentation to comply with various agency and hospital regulations. Performs required instrument maintenance at the prescribed time and logs appropriately. Performs minor troubleshooting on instrumentation. Instructs and trains rotating residents, students, physicians, and new members of the anatomic pathology laboratory staff in laboratory testing procedures as needed. Assures a clean work area and technical clean-up at the end of each shift. Assists in maintaining sufficient supplies at each work station. Performs job functions adhering to service principles with a customer service focus of innovation, service excellence, and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers, and others. Assists with confocal microscopy operations and instruments maintenance. Undertakes projects and tasks that are related to the microscopy operations. Provides basic training on the operation of the microscopes to scientists, faculty, and staff. Other job functions as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Bachelor’s degree in a science field or certification equivalent. Demonstrated experience in routine tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, frozen section techniques, special stains, and immunohistochemistry staining techniques. Demonstrated experience with optics or microscopy. Computer skills desirable. HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) or NCA (CLS) certified or eligible, and/or other acceptable certificates/licensures. Education Bachelor's Degree Pay Range $26.25-$42.50 Hourly At Lurie Children’s, we are committed to competitive and fair compensation aligned with market rates and internal equity, reflecting individual contributions, experience, and expertise. The pay range for this job indicates minimum and maximum targets for the position. Ranges are regularly reviewed to stay aligned with market conditions.
