Up to $65,000 per annum + Benefits Role Overview: Join our dynamic team as a Data Centre Technician, where you will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and performance of our data centre operations. You will be engaged in hands-on management of our physical infrastructure, working closely with network and IT teams to maintain and troubleshoot critical hardware and connectivity solutions. Key Responsibilities: Cabling & Hardware Management: Perform installation, routing, and management of data centre cabling (copper and fibre optic) ensuring secure and compliant connections. Carry out the installation of servers, switches, routers, and other hardware through efficient racking and stacking. Diagnose and resolve cabling and hardware faults, ensuring quick restoration of service. Rack & Stack Operations: Physically install, configure, and ensure proper decommissioning of hardware based on best practices. Maintain accurate records of rack elevation and asset management to reflect current equipment layouts. Ensure adequate airflow, cable organization, and power distribution for optimal performance. Smart Hands Services: Provide remote support, troubleshooting hardware issues, rebooting servers, and managing equipment swaps as needed. Engage in basic software configurations under the guidance of senior engineers. Quickly respond to urgent requests involving physical equipment management. Network & Connectivity Support: Assist in the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of network devices. Perform cable patching for all connections to ensure quality and security. Collaborate with network teams for VLAN configurations and connectivity testing as necessary. Documentation & Inventory Management: Keep accurate documentation of cabling layouts and equipment inventory. Ensure all installations and modifications are recorded properly and labeling is up to date. Conduct regular audits to confirm compliance with internal policies and standards. Health, Safety, and Quality: Adhere to strict safety protocols with all installations and repairs. Maintain cable management practices that preserve operational integrity. Regularly inspect the facility to identify potential risks. Collaboration & Communication: Coordinate effectively with internal teams and external vendors to ensure project success. Serve as an escalation point for resolving hardware issues. Provide timely updates to clients and internal teams on the status of service requests. Qualifications & Skills: Hands-on expertise with structured cabling systems (copper and fibre optic). Familiarity with data centre hardware including servers and network devices. Knowledge of best practices in data centre management. Understanding of basic networking concepts like IP addressing and VLANs. Experience & Education: Relevant technical certification or degree in IT, Networking, or related field. Minimum of 3 years of practical experience in a data centre focusing on cabling and hardware. Experience in client-facing roles preferred. Certifications such as BICSI or CompTIA Network+ are advantageous. Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting ability. Excellent communication skills for collaboration with teams and clients. Detail-oriented with the capacity to work independently or as a part of a team. Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively. Additional Requirements: Ability to lift and install hardware components weighing up to 50 lbs. Availability for shifts, weekends, and on-call work. Willingness to travel to different data centre locations as needed.
