Job Description
The Quality Engineer III collaborates with Product Owners, Development Teams, Architects, Business Analysts, System Analysts, and Software Engineers to plan and execute daily quality assurance and testing activities. This role ensures that products meet the expected quality standards. The Quality Engineer III is responsible for analyzing written requirements, development team analyses, and architecture and design artifacts to plan and execute necessary testing efforts for assigned projects. Additionally, this role mentors QE team members on quality assurance and testing processes/procedures across the platform team and maintains a working knowledge of industry best practices in Quality Assurance, Validation and Testing, and Test Automation. Essential Job Functions: Lead cross-functional problem-solving teams to drive process and product improvements within their assigned product team and across the platform. Utilize QE methodologies to manage and facilitate issue resolution, including root cause investigations and the development, implementation, and monitoring of effective corrective and preventive actions. Design and implement test automation frameworks for the QA environment. Drive QA focus and standards related to Functional and Regression testing. Analyze business and technical requirements to create comprehensive test plans. Create and execute automated and manual test scripts for Functional and Regression testing, Mobile Device testing, and Cross Browser testing for a range of client, server, and cloud applications. Identify opportunities for test automation, analyze test runs, document results, and troubleshoot test failures. Analyze test data, document findings in test reports, perform technical root-cause analysis of failed test automations, and communicate results to the team. Establish and maintain quality performance metrics for the assigned product team. Implement and communicate policies and governance necessary to support the quality assurance components of the software development lifecycle, ensuring documentation follows high standards of clear communication, accuracy, and precision. Knowledge and Skills: Proficient in a range of leading industry test automation and test management tools, preferably Selenium. Experience in Java development, mobile and front-end testing, AWS Redshift, and SQL Server. Strong understanding of QA processes within the software development lifecycle and a fundamental understanding of Agile methodologies. Ability to apply knowledge to daily Quality Assurance efforts while maintaining a functional understanding of ALSAC/St. Jude’s internet and intranet applications, third-party software solutions, and proprietary developments. Industry certifications (CSQA, CMSQ, ISTQB Fundamental, etc.) are preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, critical thinking abilities, and strong research and analytical skills. Good time management skills, self-motivated, and able to work in a fast-paced environment. Capacity to learn new technologies, understand complex verbal or written instructions, and work effectively in a team environment. Well-organized and able to work collaboratively within a team. Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Quality Assurance/Control, Business, or a related field. 5-8 years of experience in Quality Assurance or a related field.
