Through collaborations across academic advising, academic achievement program, career services, first year experience program, honors program, and international programs, we support students, promote inclusive dialogue, recognize diverse experiences, and encourage them to design experiences that enable their success.
The Student Academic Affairs Office in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences are seeking to hire two Academic Advisors. One Academic Advisor will serve on the Core Academic Advising Team while the other will serve the Access and Achievement Program.
Core - Academic Advisor
Job Summary
Academic Advisors provide holistic academic advising and coordination of student services in support of the personal, educational, and professional development of undergraduate students in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences.
Duties & Responsibilities
Serves on the Core Academic Advisor Team
Participates in weekly walk-in advising duty (three shifts). Hold weekly advising appointments with students (two shifts). Serves on late and retroactive drop/withdrawal committees and related committees supporting student success. Reviews and approves student academic relief requests. Processes Student Engagement Reports.
Assists Records Advisors with Progress Degree Monitoring Communications and Student Meetings
Participates in Shared Office Responsibilities
Participates in end-of-term academic progress review audits. Contributes to LAS student recruitment and orientation activities, as needed. Serves as the unit representative and on internal and external committees or working groups, as needed.
Access and Achievement Program - Academic Advisor
Job Summary
Serve as one of the primary Academic Advisors in the Access and Achievement Program (AAP). Provides academic advising and student affairs-related services to students in the Access and Achievement Program. The AAP program is a recruitment, retention, and enrichment program in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Students are assigned AAP attributes the undergraduate admissions process.
Duties & Responsibilities
Serves as an Academic Advisor for Students Admitted into LAS Undeclared
Serves as an Academic Advisor for students assigned to specific cohorts in the Access and Achievement Program including students in honors, on academic warning, in LAS General Curriculum, and other students who need assistance from the College of LAS.
Teaches and assesses a section of LAS 112: First Year College Success.
Serves as a freshmen registration Academic Advisor for LAS Undeclared/LAS General Curriculum. Contributes to orientation and onboarding activities for new students in AAP.
Monitors Student Engagement Reports submitted by Faculty Members for students at-risk of experiencing academic difficulties.
Participates in the review of the Late-retroactive drop queue and other online administrative process queues. Participates in end-of-term academic progress review audits.
Serves on the walk-in advisor on duty rotation for LAS SAAO
Collaborates and communicates with LAS departments and other colleges/units to ensure accurate dissemination of information for students for academic planning purposes.
Contributes to LAS new student recruitment and yield events and activities that may require overnight and weekend work, as needed.
Serves as unit representative on internal and external committees or working groups, as needed.
Other duties as assigned to further the mission of the unit.
Qualifications for Both Positions
Required Qualifications
Bachelor\'s degree.
One (1) year of professional experience or two (2) years of graduate work experience working directly with students in secondary or higher education.
Preferred Qualifications
All degree backgrounds will receive full consideration. Preference will be given to those with degrees in the liberal arts and sciences.
Master\'s Degree or graduate studies in relevant student affairs fields such as education, social work, among other areas.
At least one year of full-time professional experience in academic advising/counseling, s
