Job Summary:

The Academic Advisor aids Bushnell students in developing academic plans, accessing campus resources, and understanding relevant academic policies and procedures. The position is assigned an advising load and responsibilities for their population include (but not limited to): course registration, degree completion plans, academic service referrals, academic resources, retention and progression, academic success and other advising duties as assigned. The position is a part of an overall team in academic affairs that helps students persist to degree completion.

Position Duties and Responsibilities Provide a solid role model of wisdom, faith, and service. Participate in academic and/or licensure advising, as assigned. Follow the current Policies & Procedures and Employee Handbook as it pertains to staff roles and responsibilities. Interact cross divisionally with other University staff on a regular basis. Fulfill any other duties as assigned by supervisor. Specific to this Position:

Provide academic advising for students in Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing, science undergraduate and other majors as assigned. This includes schedule changes, adding/dropping courses, withdrawals, and navigating University policies and procedures. This position will serve as the primary students support and retention specialist for students in the Nursing program. Develop graduation plans with students. Process administrative actions as appropriate for student non-participation, follow up with students as appropriate. Review attendance weekly, respond to intervention alerts, and counsel students toward positive outcomes. Assist with orientation, including preparing paperwork/forms for students and presenting sessions. Initiate regular contact with advisees to track their academic progress and needs. Provide referrals to other university services as appropriate, including financial aid, disability services, tutoring, career development, athletics, residence life, and/or campus ministry. Provide academic success coaching and mentoring for at-risk and probation students. Collaborate with faculty and staff to provide timely and accurate information to students. Participate in departmental meetings and assigned committees. Operate a computer, copier, fax and other office equipment as assigned. Prepare and maintain records and reports related to assigned activities. Participate in the development of publicity materials including correspondence (letters/e-mails), brochures, fliers, and website content Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Academic Advising. Experience and Qualification Requirements:

Minimum of bachelor's degree. Experience in higher education administration support and academic service. Transferable skills in case management, support services, client relationships and other educational settings considered. Ability to utilize Windows and Microsoft based software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc. and willingness to learn Student Information System (Jenzabar) Experience utilizing e-mail for the purposes of organizational communications. Excellent communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively using tact, patience, and courtesy with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures, as well as the ability to deliver presentations. Working Conditions/Special Requirements:

This position may require lifting up to 25 lbs., as well as bending, stooping, and kneeling.
