Job Title: PhlebotomistJob DescriptionThe Phlebotomist aims to serve patients by preparing specimens for laboratory testing and performing screening standards. The Phlebotomist shall draw quality blood samples while creating an atmosphere of trust and confidence.ResponsibilitiesPerform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data and decontaminate areas, and update patient information.Greet customers appropriately and treat all customers in a courteous manner.Collect specimens according to established procedures and properly explain the process of venipuncture or other specimen collection in a clear and courteous manner.Reduce patient anxiety by providing a calm environment for patients before, during, and after the collection process.Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Fully understand all physician orders.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.Package specimens for transport.Store specimen samples according to required temperatures, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label, and follow procedures as outlined for transport to maintain specimen integrity.Demonstrate proficiency in proper collection methods and proper processing of all specimens.Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department trainings.Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Perform other duties as assigned.Essential SkillsVenipuncturePhlebotomy certificationProficiency with Microsoft Office SuiteExperience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced environment or hospital settingAdditional Skills & QualificationsMinimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting and 0 - 2 years of experience.Reliable transportation with at least 4 years of licensed driving experience and a valid driver's license issued in the state of residence.Willingness to travel throughout assigned geography about 100% of the time.Work EnvironmentThe work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. This is a high-volume site with over 200 patients daily.
