Job Purpose:
The Sports Coordinator will assist the Program Supervisor with implementingthe Park District's in-house youth and adult sports leagues and camps/programs. This requires a balance of leadership and service. The Coordinator sets the tone for programs and instructs staff and volunteers ontheir responsibilities, giving them thetoolsto be successful. The coordinator must be flexible and prepared to respond to stressful situations such as parent concerns, player discipline issues, and scheduling conflicts. The Coordinator is a role model for other staff and volunteers: enthusiastic, supportive, accountable, safety-minded, and professional. The Coordinatormust consistently reinforce expectations and strive to take programs to the next level.

Essential Functions:
Preparation and Training
- Participates in and help prepare and lead allaspects of staff and volunteer coaches training.
- Organizes and distributes all necessary equipment and supplies.
- Monitors all program registration and assists with parent communication prior to the start of programs.
- Assist in preparation of all pre-season player clinics and drafts.
- Assist in preparation and implement adult league captains' meetings.
- Serve as camp coordinator for in house sports camps.
- Assists with the recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, supervising, mentoring, and evaluating staff and volunteers.
- Manages check requests and procurement cards, including the tracking of receipts.
- Ensures filing ofall emergency forms.
- Ensures thatprograms stayon budget.
- Addresses any staff behavior or discipline issues.
- Assists with preparation and reviews of evaluations for staff and volunteers with suggestions for future improvement.
- Acts as on-site supervisor for summer in house camps.
- Ensures that staff are properly following schedules and safety requirements.
- Understands and follows all Park District and program rules and policies.
- Supervises classes and leagues, constantly setting a good example for staff, volunteers, and participants.
- Ensure that all non-park district program sites are cared for in terms of participants and staff following all site specific rules.
- Works with the Program Supervisor to assist in creating league documents and schedules.
- Assist in maintaining league records including standings, rainouts, etc.
- Ensures that staff/volunteers are running programs in a manner consistent with program goals and that keeps participants active, excited, and safe.
- Assist in non-league sport programming.
- Assist with instruction of classes when needed.
- Communicates any concerns or issueswith the Program Supervisor.
- Keeps program supplies, equipment, and facility space clean, organized, and safe.
- Inventories staff and participant apparel, program supplies and equipment.
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
- 1-3 years of experience of sports programming in a recreation setting.
- Knowledge, experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer applications.
- Certification in advanced Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) within 1 month of employment and keep certification current. The District provides this training.
- Ability to work with and instruct staff and children in sport related activities.
- Ability to work with a minimum of supervision to solve problems comprehensively and to produce accurate work within a set deadline schedule.
- Frequently sitting, walking, standing and typing.
- Occasionally climbing, balancing, kneeling, and crawling.
- Strength - work requires handling average weight (up to 50 lbs.) materials or equipment.
- May be exposed to occasional inclement weather as position will require outdoor work.
- Ability to present ideas and recommendations in a concise verbal and written manner.
- Ability to understand and carry out verbal and/or written instructions efficiently and effectively.
- Ability to communicate with staff in a clear, concise verbal and written manner.
- Ability to use independent judgment and initiative to respond to unexpected or unplanned events or demands.
- Ability to interpret "early warning" signals and communicate information.
- Ability to involve others through informal networking and involve others in decision making.
- Ability to present oneself in a professional manner and speak effectively to the public.
