Cybersecurity Technology, Department of Cybersecurity - Adjunct Faculty

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks adjunct faculty to teach, in the School of Cybersecurity & Information Technology. Specifically, we are seeking faculty for the following courses:

  1. Introduction to Linux (CMIT 291): The goal is to configure and manage processes, user interfaces, device files, print facilities, file systems, task automation, the boot-up/shutdown sequence, disk storage, network connectivity, system security, and users and groups.
  2. Ethical Hacking (CMIT 321): Development of the structured knowledge base needed to discover vulnerabilities and recommend solutions for tightening network security and protecting data from potential attackers. Focus is on penetration-testing tools and techniques to protect computer networks.
  3. Switching, Routing, and Wireless Essentials (CMIT 351): A hands-on introduction to Cisco internetworking devices. Focus is on switching technologies and router operations that support small-to-medium business networks, including wireless local area networks (WLAN) and security concepts.
  4. Managing Modern Microsoft Desktops (CMIT 380): An introduction to installing, supporting, and configuring Windows 10 desktops in an organizational environment.
  5. Managing Microsoft 365 Identity (CMIT 382): An introduction to Microsoft 365 identity and services.
  6. Penetration Testing and Cyber Red Teaming (CMIT 386): An introduction to the concepts and skills necessary to perform penetration testing and red teaming.
  7. Managing Security on Modern Microsoft Desktops (CMIT 420):
  8. Threat Management and Vulnerability Assessment (CMIT 421): A study of the analysis of data in threat and vulnerability management.
  9. Cybersecurity Technology Capstone (CMIT 495): A comprehensive project-driven study of network design and security.

Required Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Cybersecurity or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Active and current certificate in CCNA, Linux, or CEH.
  • Professional experience in Computer Networking and Security.
  • Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education is strongly preferred.
  • This position is specifically to teach onsite at Shady Grove, MD.

The Adjunct Faculty Role at UMGC

Your role as an adjunct faculty member will be to:

  • Actively engage students through frequent interaction that motivates them to succeed.
  • Guide students in active collaboration and the application of their learning.
  • Provide rich and regular constructive feedback.
  • Demonstrate relevant and current subject-matter expertise.
  • Provide feedback to your program chair on possible curricular improvements.
