The Hun School of Princeton seeks a dynamic and creative
Associate Director of College Counseling
for a position beginning in July 2025. Reporting to the Director of College Counseling, this full-time position is exempt, and works twelve (12) months per year.
The College Counseling Program at The Hun School of Princeton is designed to discover and ultimately achieve the best college fit for each student. It begins with a college counseling team second-to-none. Our college counseling professionals are experts in their field who leverage their considerable experience and relationships to enhance their work with Hun School families.
The Hun School College Counseling team hosts dozens of education programs for students and parents throughout the year, such as panel discussions with top college admission professionals and case study programs where students and parents get to examine real-life admission scenarios. They offer affinity group programming for LGBTQ+ students, HBCUs, Women's Colleges, and collegiate student athletes. They are adept and wholly dedicated to getting to know their counselees early and helping them build a menu of great opportunities to identify and meet their post-secondary goals.
Responsibilities:
Counseling and supporting a caseload of Grade 11-12 students in the post-secondary and college search, selection and application process, including providing feedback on essays and proofreading and editing applications; Advising students, parents, and the broader Hun community about the college admission and financial aid process, trends, procedures and standardized testing; Working with students individually and in small groups; Teaching a college class and leading various workshops; Building relationships with parents through individual meetings and regular communication; Writing thorough, highly personalized counselor statements ; Advising students on course selection; Engaging in professional development opportunities, such as visiting colleges and universities and representing Hun at national and regional college admission counseling conferences; Meeting with college representatives (both on campus and through professional development opportunities) in order to establish and/or develop collegial relationships. Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred; Minimum of three to five years combined experience in college counseling and/or college admissions is preferred; Experience in an independent school environment a plus; A love for working with young people; A commitment to a diverse and inclusive community; A passion for working in an innovative, experiential, and student-centered environment; Ability and desire to work collaboratively and effectively with students, parents, faculty, and staff; Personal qualities including flexibility, resilience, approachability, and kindness; Inclination to connect with students, colleagues, and families with curiosity, energy, warmth, humility, and humor; Demonstrated, commitment to meet deadlines, organization, and management skills; Excellent listening, counseling, verbal and written communication skills; Motivated to periodically work beyond and outside the typical workday, both to meet the needs of the College Counseling Office and to fully participate in the life of the school; Must possess good judgment, tact, sensitivity, and discretion in the handling of confidential information, materials and situations; Excellent technology skills and experience integrating technology into the college counseling process; Facility to understand and apply data related to the college admission landscape into counseling and college list building; Familiarity or experience with online instruction including the use of Zoom meeting technology; Knowledge of SCOIR will be an advantage.
