It’s rewarding work, with an inspiring team, where every contribution matters.About the role: Our Caterpillar Remanufacturing Division currently has an opening for a Design Engineering Specialist position located at either our Mossville, IL or Nuevo Laredo, MX facility. In this role, you will be the Product Engineer for one or more Fuel Systems product families. The Fuel Systems team is accountable for the overall quality and warranty of existing products, support of product and process salvage improvement projects to manage costs and execution of New Product Introduction (NPI) programs introducing new product offerings for our dealers and customers. As a technical expert on the team, you will contribute to or lead strategic projects, partner with and provide technical guidance to global teams, and provide technical guidance and coaching to other FS product engineers.Job responsibilities will Include but are not limited to:Provide technical consultations to other FS Product EngineersCollaborate with new FS engineers to ensure that Design for Reman principles are followedEvaluate new component salvage projects and techniques. Develop and execute validation plans to ensure salvage projects meeting quality and warranty goals.Track product warranty and watch for emerging trends.Leading / supporting CPI, 6 Sigma, RCCA Quality projects.Evaluate, define, and resolve design and manufacturing problems.Travel to foreign and domestic facilities, suppliers, dealerships, and customer job sites to solve design problems or to field test locations to evaluate a product improvement.Support the engineering portion of New Product Introduction (NPI) of Reman fuel system products and perform necessary print maintenance & releasing to make the product available.Work closely with Caterpillar and external supplier manufacturability teams resolving problems with manufacturing and statistical process controls.Skill Descriptors:Fuel Systems Product Design and Development: Extensive Knowledge of fuel systems product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.Fuel Systems Product Testing: Extensive Knowledge of fuel systems product testing approaches, techniques and tools; ability to design, plan and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure product quality at all stages of manufacturing.Analytical Thinking: Extensive Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Extensive Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Extensive Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment.Computer-Aided Design & Engineering: Extensive Knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized graphics programs; ability to produce, analyze, simulate and test product design drafts.Top Candidates Will Have: Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.Experience in fuel systems design and/or manufacturing and/or industry experience. Experience in leading quality, warranty, CPI, cost or NPI improvement projectsDetailed design and manufacturing knowledge of numerous Caterpillar fuel injector familiesKnowledge of Caterpillar Reman products.Knowledge of fuel system pumps and injectorsAdditional Information: This position can be located in either Mossville, Illinois or Neuvo Laredo, Mexico.
