District Overview

Kiewit Power Engineers is at the forefront of various project types, including gas-fired generation, power delivery, environmental retrofits, renewables, new technology, and water/wastewater. Our team drives the engineering process within power markets, always prioritizing safe, cost-effective, and innovative solutions.

Location

This position will be based out of our office in Lenexa, KS.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and interpret the client's Request for Proposal (RFP) including specifications, drawings, and related documents to produce accurate cost estimates for diverse EPC projects in power generation and Carbon Capture.
  • Review and coordinate preliminary site plans crafted by civil engineers and designers for quantity takeoffs.
  • Train entry-level estimators to perform precise quantity takeoffs in areas including earthwork, site surfacing, underground piping, and drainage.
  • Create subcontract and material bid packages in collaboration with the procurement team, addressing bidder inquiries, and leading bid evaluations.
  • Identify project risks, assumptions, and pricing with full documentation to ensure compliance with company standards in estimates and proposals.
  • Engage in estimate reviews with department heads and management, providing clarity on civil estimate bases.
  • Facilitate comparisons between self-perform estimates, subcontractor quotes, and second team estimates.
  • Utilize computer-aided design and construction estimating software efficiently.
  • Assist the proposal team by contributing civil-specific content for significant projects.
  • Possess a strong understanding of civil construction methods and effectively communicate pricing strategies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field required.
  • A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in Construction Estimating.
  • Strong knowledge of civil-site designs including drainage, grading, utilities, and roads/paving.
  • Ability to collaborate with civil designers to ensure quality drawings for quantity takeoffs.
  • Proven track record of working collaboratively with diverse teams to solve complex problems.
  • Act as a project or discipline point of contact for both internal and external customers.
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks and responsibilities while meeting critical deadlines.
