Mechanical Design Engineer (CFD Experience)

TalentCORE, Inc., Oak Ridge, TN, United States

About LIST Technologies Inc:
Our client Laser Isotope Separation Technologies (LIS Technologies Inc., or LIST) is a USA-based company developing a patented laser enrichment technology called CRISLA. This groundbreaking technology has diverse applications, including uranium enrichment, production of stable isotopes for medical and scientific research, and quantum computing manufacturing for semiconductor technologies. Our team consists of world-class nuclear experts collaborating with leading entrepreneurs and professionals, fostering strong partnerships in both government and private nuclear sectors.

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineering Specialist to lead the design and development of innovative mechanical systems. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in 3D CAD design, finite element analysis (FEA), and computational fluid dynamics (CFD), coupled with a proven track record of managing complex engineering projects from conception to completion. This role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams and external contractors to deliver high-quality engineering solutions that meet project requirements and deadlines.

This is an on-site position located in Oak Ridge, TN, requiring a clean track record to obtain a DOE Q-clearance. The successful candidate will receive a competitive base salary, company benefits, and generous stock options.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design and development of mechanical systems using advanced 3D CAD tools, ensuring compliance with performance, quality, and safety standards.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, simulations, and testing to validate designs and optimize system performance.
  • Perform FEA and CFD simulations to evaluate design integrity under various conditions, iterating designs as needed.
  • Use advanced CFD software (e.g., ANSYS Fluent, COMSOL Multiphysics, OpenFOAM, Siemens Simcenter) to simulate complex gaseous fluid behaviors.
  • Model adiabatic gas expansion processes, including applying thermodynamic equations and boundary conditions in simulations.
  • Analyze flow dynamics in gas laser systems, addressing thermal convection, buoyancy effects, and laser performance optimization.
  • Validate CFD models with experimental data to ensure reliability and accuracy.
  • Optimize gas flow parameters to enhance laser efficiency and output quality.
  • Interface with machine shops to translate 3D CAD designs into prototypes, leveraging knowledge in CNC machining, 3D printing, and additive manufacturing.
  • Prepare comprehensive engineering documentation, including design reports, specifications, and technical presentations relevant to the nuclear industry.
Required Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably within the nuclear industry.
  • Proficiency in CFD and FEA tools for analyzing complex fluid and structural systems.
  • Strong understanding of adiabatic gas expansion and thermodynamics.
  • Expertise in designing mechanical systems compliant with regulatory standards (nuclear industry experience is highly desirable).
  • Experience in validating and post-processing CFD simulation data to derive actionable insights.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with flow dynamics in gas laser systems and stability analysis.
  • Experience optimizing parameters in laser systems using CFD tools.
  • Strong background in CNC machining, 3D printing, and additive manufacturing.
Benefits:
  • Compensation: Competitive base salary, equity options, and performance incentives.
  • Health Coverage: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, full-time on-site role.

Relocation Requirements:
Relocation to Oak Ridge, TN is required prior to starting work.
