This includes communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees in addition to planning and directing employees’ work. The incumbent has the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such action. The incumbent will also be required to develop performance expectations, meet with staff regularly to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, maintain vacation and work schedules, ensuring proper coverage, and complete timesheets. This is a professional position responsible for providing various functions in the WIC Certification process for the Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). This position primarily serves Jackson County but can be called to all sites within the Jackson WIC Agency area served. All work is carried out under the supervision of a Public Health Services Manager. The employee will be required to satisfactorily complete the State of Florida Nutrition Training Series. The employee must be able to work with all clients in a fair and impartial manner. The employee will support and promote excellent customer service. Compliance with all standards associated with this position is required, along with adherence to security, integrity and confidentiality regulations, policies and procedures related to information under the direct control of this position. The incumbent in this position is responsible for the integrity and confidentiality of the data sets under his/her control of this position. The incumbent in this position will come to work and exhibit an attitude of friendliness and eager customer service towards all participants and act respectfully and courteously to fellow employees and program participants. The incumbent of this position will coordinate the staff and clinic in their site being a liaison between the Public Health Services Manager and the clinic served. The incumbent of this position must maintain a clear/active Florida license in Dietetics/Nutrition. Certifies and provides appropriate nutrition assessment and nutrition counseling for clients eligible (pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women, infants, and children to age five) for the WIC program. Conducts classes, demonstrations, and other nutrition education activities for WIC clients. Responsible for certifying participants for program benefits based on established criteria. Performs and records accurate measurements (heights/lengths and weights) as needed for certification or follow-up. Utilizes established nutrition criteria to assess nutritional and anthropometric information to assign appropriate nutrition risks and food packages. Provides individual nutrition counseling for all WIC participants based on nutritional assessment, anthropometric and laboratory data. Identifies high risk clients and counsels them according to established criteria and creates nutrition care plans. Documents counseling in the WIC participants FL-WiSE record, as appropriate. Utilizes established criteria to make food package changes for WIC contract and non-contract formulas. Makes referrals to appropriate providers according to established procedures. Follows all guidelines for nutrition education as listed in DHM-150-24. Maintains an adequate supply of nutrition materials needed for individual and/or group instruction. Provides breastfeeding support, equipment and information and refers to appropriate breastfeeding staff member. Performs anthropometric and hematological measurements for WIC eligibility determination and follow-up. Uses CDC approved equipment correctly. Prepares nutrition education materials (newsletters, handouts) to use for clients for the WIC program. Promotes and supports breastfeeding to the WIC clients and the community. Assists with planning, implementing, and evaluation to the public health nutrition program for WIC clients, health departments patients and staff. Attends seminars and workshops on WIC policies and procedures, breastfeeding and nutrition as needed to keep current in field. Completes assigned duties in a timely manner according to agency protocol. Attends meetings, training, and performs other duties as required. Complies with all rules and regulations in the employee handbook. Completes timesheet and EAR’s as directed. Complies with Administrative Rule 44-4.080 (1)(a)(b) and Chapter 815, F.S., “Florida Computer Crimes Act.” All other duties assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Completion of the Florida Nutrition Training Guide is required. * Competent keyboard skills required. Ability to learn WIP computer system. Ability to correctly use a calculator. Knowledge of correct telephone procedures. Ability to provide own transportation to assigned work sites and have a valid Driver’s License. Ability to maintain client confidentiality and interact professionally with the public. Qualifications: Preferred: Minimum- Must be a licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist in accordance with the Florida Statutes Chapter 468 or be eligible to practice Dietetics in accordance with Chapter 21M, Section 48.001, 48.002, or 48.003 Florida Administrative Code. Current driver’s license required.
