Job Overview: Continental Tide is seeking an experienced and skilled Shipfitter. The successful candidate will join our Fleet Services Group performing various ship repair, modernization and Alteration Installation Team (AIT) projects. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Shipfitter - The Shipfitter must possess knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to assemble, modify, lay out, fabricate, repair and install plates, shapes and/or pipe to be used to form a part of a structural assembly in connection with ship alteration and repair. The following is a list of typical work that a Shipfitter might be asked to perform: Lays out work from written and verbal instructions. Employs appropriate trade methods to ensure watertight integrity on hulls of metal ships. Manufactures and installs interior and exterior structural items. Repairs and/or removes and replaces damaged ship structures and fittings. Understands and utilizes appropriate trade methods to create structural welds and fittings. Manufactures and installs parts and assemblies from templates. Prepares surfaces for welding, burning, riveting and lays out for holes to be drilled utilizing miscellaneous hand, electric, and pneumatic tools. Measures with various precision instruments as required. Coordinates and arranges for the work of several trades in connection with performing work from information received from technical work documents, blueprints, specifications, written and/or oral instructions. Required Experience: Required Skills and Education Education Minimum: High school Diploma/GED Minimum Relevant Experience: 5 to 8 yrs. Practical Theory RequirementsA first class mechanic must demonstrate an advanced understanding of naval vessel compartments, number systems and related vessel terminology for the CG, DDG, and LHD ships.Other Requirements Must be able to read, write and comprehend simple instructions Must be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram form Must be able to calculate and understand units of measure, including fractions and decimals Must know how to measure using a scale and tape measure Must be able to wear standard PPE and use basic ship fitting tool list This job description does not include all activities, duties or responsibilities required for this position.
