POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Note: All official drafts, documents, and recommendations, as listed below, must be reviewed, finalized, and approved / accepted by appropriate BPA manager or other federal personnel with the authority to do so.
Research, test, document, and develop standardized technical procedures for the deployment and troubleshooting of server hardware (or virtual machines), the associated operating systems, and application software.
Perform system vulnerability assessments using vendor and third-party tools (Nessus), recommend mitigation options based on risk of exploitation after consideration of environmental factors.
Serve as a service response escalation point, working with teams of varying technical ability in response to service availability and/or performance related incidents / problems.
Recommend process / procedural changes that may become necessary due to environmental changes, upgrades.
Support the design and implementation of highly available database solutions appropriate for workloads based on customer requirements.
Support disaster recovery and continuity of operations through continuous verification of availability mechanisms and management of data protection activities (including backup and restore testing).
Serve as a technical advisor for project and service response and related tasks.
Operate a production SQL Database environment using SQL Server Management Studio.
Recommend process improvements and technical solutions that can be integrated into existing environments surrounding performance, operational efficiency, and capacity.
Apply the processes/procedures in support of the following technologies:
Microsoft Windows Server 2016/2019/2022/2025 (as it pertains to SQL DB).
Mark documents and maintain filing system(s), files, emails, and records in accordance with compliance requirements. Share and disperse documents only to appropriate personnel (those with a Lawful Government Purpose (LGP) to know). Mark and maintain all official records in accordance with the Information Security (INFOSEC) and Information Governance & Lifecycle Management (IGLM) standards and procedures. Validate official records are accurately maintained for auditing purposes.
REQUIREMENTS
Education & Corresponding Experience (required on matrix)
A bachelor's degree in information technology (or closely related technical discipline) is preferred.
10 years of experience is required with an applicable bachelor's degree.
15 years of experience is required without a degree or applicable degree.
Experience should include directly related IT infrastructure administration.
Required Technical Skills & Experience (required on matrix)
10 years of knowledge and experience sufficient to administer MS SQL DB versions 2012 through 2022.
10 years of knowledge and experience sufficient to administer MS SQL Clustering/AlwaysOn.
5 years of knowledge and experience sufficient to successfully troubleshoot Windows operating systems using text-based logs, windows event logs, and various utilities as it pertains to support of SQL Database services.
5 years knowledge of and experience building tools for other administrators to use and automating operations with scripting tools such as shell scripting and PowerShell.
5 years of knowledge of and experience with TCP/IP and related services.
Preferred Skills & Experience (optional on matrix)
Direct experience with supporting Azure SQL DB's.
Direct experience managing SQL Server DB using Central Management Server (CMS) and Policy Based Management (PBM) and implementation of DISA STIG for SQL Server.
Experience working with an enterprise scheduling system.
Experience configuring and managing systems using Puppet Enterprise.
Experience managing Oracle RDBMS.
