Job Description: Ophthalmic Fellow
Position Overview:
The Ophthalmic Fellow is a post-residency trainee who works under the supervision of experienced faculty to gain advanced knowledge and specialized skills in a subspecialty of ophthalmology. The fellow will actively participate in clinical, surgical, educational, and research activities, contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care and advancing the academic mission of the department.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Care:
Perform comprehensive evaluations and management of patients within the designated subspecialty (e.g., glaucoma, retina, cornea, pediatric ophthalmology).
Assist in outpatient clinics, inpatient consultations, and surgical procedures under faculty supervision.
Provide emergency and on-call coverage as assigned.
Surgical Training:
Develop advanced surgical skills by assisting in and performing procedures with faculty oversight.
Maintain a log of surgical cases for tracking progress and meeting credentialing requirements.
Education and Teaching:
Mentor and teach medical students and residents during clinical and surgical rotations.
Deliver presentations and participate in departmental conferences, journal clubs, and case discussions.
Research and Scholarship:
Engage in research projects, including data collection, analysis, and manuscript preparation for publication.
Present findings at local, national, or international conferences.
Contribute to grant writing and collaborative research initiatives.
Professional Development:
Stay current with advancements in the field through literature review, workshops, and conferences.
Actively participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited ophthalmology residency program.
Board eligibility or certification in ophthalmology.
Demonstrated interest in the chosen subspecialty through prior clinical or research experience.
Skills and Attributes:
Strong clinical and surgical skills with a commitment to patient-centered care.
Excellent communication, teaching, and interpersonal abilities.
