Description
Bloomsbury Academic + Professional, a division of Bloomsbury Publishing, seeks a dynamic self-starter to join the sales team in the role of Assistant Sales Manager, Academic Retail. Working across departments and regions, including the US and UK academic sales, editorial, and marketing teams, this role will drive sales through proactive account management including promotion, discoverability, and provision of metadata to meet the needs of key accounts. Responsibilities include provision of new title info, active engagement in seasonal sales conferences, identifying opportunities for special and bulk sales, and other duties as they arise. This role also acts as a liaison with Bloomsbury's distribution partner, MPS, on orders and order issues, and with Login Bros., our Canadian distributor.
Primary Responsibilities
Meet/exceed sales targets set for the US Academic + Professional business Implement strategic sales plans and forecasts to achieve objectives in the Americas across key wholesale and retail accounts as well as indie retail Provide in-depth analysis of sales at category, discipline, and account level, as well as key title reporting and identify trends as supported by sales data In close communication with the marketing team, set promotional strategies to drive discovery and purchase of key titles in both print and eBook formats; recommend product positioning, packaging, and pricing strategy to ensure market share, frontlist sales optimization, and backlist potential Audit metadata and availability of academic titles in both print and eBook format at key accounts Collaborate with sales, sales operations, editorial, marketing, international sales based in the UK, and other key business functions across the academic lists and across Bloomsbury as required Work to identify bulk sales opportunities, and negotiate and close those deals Track and report on trends in academic disciplines and sales cycles. Requirements
Minimum 2 years of related experience with sales and sales management-ideally in academic markets Excellent communication and presentation skills Advanced analytical skills and Excel ability Strong negotiation skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Ability to prioritize requests and duties in a fast-paced environment Passion for sales and people Experience with Amazon and other national accounts including Ingram, EBSCO, and ProQuest, is a plus Prior experience with Edelweiss preferred but not required Minimum of a B.A. degree Location
All candidates must reside in the NY tri-state area and be able to commute to our NY headquarters on a hybrid-remote schedule.
