Who are we hiring?

The Director of Security oversees and manages all event security operations and provides strategic and operational guidance to permanent full-time security and part-time event security staff. The role provides all event security staff and indirect supervisor direct supervision over the local Security Operations Center. The Director Security is responsible for creating a safe working environment for Madison Square Garden (MSG) Company employees and creating a safe and secure environment that supports the highest level of guest service for clients and guests who visit MSG Company venues.

What will you do?

  • Develop and implement Standard Operating procedures (SOP), Post Orders, and policies and procedures for venue security and event security including standardizing and conducting shift/roll call briefings for event staff, supervisors’ briefings and meetings, review/prepare staffing assignments and conducting security equipment and venue/event fire and security inspections.
  • Manage the administrative process for the completion of event security reporting to include incident reports, event security plans, event summaries, event flash reports and other security related reporting.
  • Review event flash report and conduct security investigations as directed by senior MSG staff and respond in a timely and effective manner to security incidents and emergencies, including review and analyzation of CCTV footage.
  • Manage the Venue security budget and Workforce employee management system, which includes budget forecasts and routine updates, determine security staffing levels for events and collaborate with internal and external partners to maximize budgeted results and maintain optimal operating efficiency.
  • Provide strategic and operational security advice to the Vice President for Venue Security and the venue General Manager.
  • Act as a liaison and coordinate with other Threat Management Division units on operational security requirements and needs.
  • Act as a liaison with the venue General Manager, internal departments, attend event production meetings with other MSG units to define security requirements and needs for all venue events and daily operations.
  • Plan and prepare guest and client services and other MSG staff for providing security services for VIPs.
  • Prepare and present all relevant reporting and/or investigative findings to Senior Leadership.
  • Act as a liaison and coordinate with local and federal law enforcement, talent and client representatives and other relevant stakeholders, organizations and agencies, and brief and direct paid detail officers.
  • In partnership with MSG’s learning and development team, provide regular, recurring and remedial security training opportunities and establish a staff development training program for building security and event security staff that includes developing a venue security exercise training program to include regular tabletop and functional exercises.
  • Conduct venue and event fire and security inspections, including inspection of security equipment.
  • Maintain required security equipment within budget forecasts, to ensure sufficient resources are available for security staff. Forecast and recommend future security requirement needs to Vice President for Venue Security and the Venue General Manager.
  • Perform other broad security duties as needed/directed to accomplish the overall security mission at MSG.

What do you need to succeed?

  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 8-10 years security operations and management experience and knowledge of events, sports, or theatre operations within a sizeable entertainment venue (candidates with comparable experience in other corporate security and management fields may be considered).
  • Ability to develop and execute company and departmental standard operating procedures (SOP’s), and effectively articulate and manage security budgetary initiatives, including a minimum of 3 years’ experience managing budgets and executing third party contracts.
  • Prior Executive Protection experience desirable although not required.
  • Knowledge of CCTV, surveillance equipment, radio communication systems, and life safety systems and fire codes.
  • Extensive experience working alongside local and state public safety agencies as well as managing in a union environment and participation negotiating collective bargaining agreements.
  • Proven ability to assess, develop and successfully execute strategic internal and external security plans and quickly adapt to change as required by events and/or daily operations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational and time management skills required.
  • Must have the ability to work independently and use sound business/operational judgment.
  • Ability to present an uplifting personality while maintaining a high degree of confidentiality and business ethics.
  • Demonstrates integrity, tact, diplomacy and a commitment to company values.
  • Adept at maintaining a positive, open, approachable, and professional relationship with a diverse group of people.

Special Requirements:

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, and extended hours, inclusive of weekends, nights and holidays required.
  • Frequent typing with repetitive motion, sitting, and extensive walking through the building required.
  • Ability to travel to other venues to support and assist other Directors as needed.

Pay Range: $147,000 — $170,000 USD
