Staff Accountant

The accountant will oversee month-end closing, journal entries, variance analysis, and period management. This role ensures financial statement integrity, reconciling discrepancies and collaborating with teams to accurately record transactions. Key responsibilities include account reconciliations, audit support, trial balance analysis, cash management, and intercompany entries. The accountant will also manage fixed assets, sales tax certificates, and contribute to the onboarding of new hires. Additionally, this position requires solid knowledge of GAAP, strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage month-end closing, including period opening/closing, journal entries, variance analysis, and ensuring accurate accounting entries.
  • Review and reconcile accounts, addressing discrepancies to ensure financial statement accuracy.
  • Collaborate with the accounting and cross-functional teams to ensure proper recording of transactions like accruals, reserves, prepaid expenses, and fixed assets.
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations (e.g., inventory, taxes, rebates, freight).
  • Support internal and external audit processes by preparing schedules and necessary documentation.
  • Prepare intercompany reconciliations, cross-charges, and elimination entries.
  • Run trial balances and ensure general ledger accuracy.
  • Assist with cash forecasting and banking operations.
  • Serve as backup to the Senior Accountant.
  • Oversee fixed asset accounting, including acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation.
  • Review and verify transaction coding for accuracy.
  • Provide support for team training and process documentation.
  • Maintain sales tax certificates
  • Assist in managing day-to-day accounting operations and meet deadlines with a flexible approach.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, and ERP systems; NetSuite experience is a plus.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and financial statement analysis.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain accounting concepts clearly.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and maintain high standards of work.
