Deputy Project Manager

SMX is seeking a seasoned Deputy Project Manager (DPM) to join the team in support of the prime contract with the Special Communications Missions Solutions organization (SCMS) within the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD). This dynamic position offers the opportunity to lead critical projects, ensure compliance with program standards, heighten stakeholder engagement, and enable secure and efficient operations within the portfolio. As a leader in the execution of government contracts, you will guide teams, oversee deliverables, and foster collaboration to drive measurable impact and lasting success on technical work in the Navy Region South West area. The DPM will support the Senior PM with overseeing the portfolio’s performance and the essential management of the projects to ensure that the team meets and exceeds on cost, schedule, and performance.This is a remote position local to the San Diego area and will include some work at the client site. This position requires a DoD secret security clearance with the ability to obtain TS/SCI, which requires US citizenship for work on DoD contracts.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesEstablish and maintain a high degree of communications with customers and subcontractorsServe as the primary point of contact for government clients, ensuring effective communication and relationship management Facilitate regular meetings with clients and stakeholders to review program progress, address issues, and incorporate feedbackManage prime and subcontractor cost, schedule, and performance Portfolio consists of several subcontractors with various contract types and complexity to include (CPFF, T&M, and FFP)Manages and executes project in line with designated deadlines and customer expectations and delegates where appropriateManages risk and opportunities accordinglyProcesses procurement requests to include both purchasing and subcontractingExecutes and monitors project activitiesManages changes to scope, cost and schedule of project workPrepares and updates project plans and status reportsCoordinates cross-functional meetings of personnel related to projectsAllocates appropriate resources to ensure projects are completed within given time and budgetDevelop project cost estimatesDevelop Statement of Works (SOW)Review contract deliverablesPrepare trip reports and monthly status reportsReports on project status, develops project-related documentation, and implements lessons learnedParticipates in project performance review meetings and discussionsDevelop and manage project budgets, ensuring cost-effective use of resources and adherence to financial constraints Allocate and monitor resources, including personnel, technology, and equipment, to optimize project outcomesEstablish and track performance metrics to ensure project objectives are met Prepare and present weekly reports on project status, performance, and outcomes to senior leadership and clientsLead, mentor, and manage project teams, providing guidance, support, and performance evaluations Foster a collaborative work environment that encourages professional development and team cohesionRequired Skills & ExperienceAbility to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and provide oversight to supporting team membersDeep understanding of project management principles to effectively manage cost, schedule, and scopeBe able to handle shifting priorities and possess excellent time management skills to complete tasks within required timeframes with no supervisionExcellent supervisory skills to motivate and delegate to junior and peer personnel as requiredStrong written and verbal communication skills to interact with stakeholdersExperience with developing and presenting briefs to senior leadershipStrong attention to details and configuration managementExperience with preparing cost estimatesExperience with developing and leading business process improvementsAbility to manage project budgets, identify financial issues, and develop Rough Order of Magnitudes (ROMs)Minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering, technical, business, or computer science/IT discipline and 11 years total experience with 5+ years of recent experience managing projectsPrior experience managing personnel in a supervisory rolePMP certification or the ability to obtain certification within 1 yearProficient use of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint Proficiency desired in Microsoft Visio and ProjectDesired Skills & ExperiencePrevious experience with IT, infrastructure and/or Systems Engineering ProjectsPrevious experience working with Electronic Security Systems (ESS) to include but not limited to Access Control Systems (ACS) and Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS)Previous experience working with Audio / Visual systems, Video Teleconference systems, and enterprise telephone systemApplication Deadline: January 20, 2025#cjpost #LI-KK1 The SMX salary determination process takes into account a number of factors, including but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories, relevant prior work experience, specific skills, education and certifications.
