Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) drives one of the world's largest cloud infrastructures, powering all Microsoft online products and services and advancing Microsoft's "Cloud First" mission. With a focus on smart growth, efficiency, and delivering a trusted customer experience, CO+I oversees over 200 web portals and services worldwide, ensuring infrastructure, security, compliance, and manageability. Within CO+I, the Datacenter Engineering (DCE) team delivers the core infrastructure for Microsoft’s cloud business, managing complex, large-scale, multi-year datacenter construction projects. We are seeking a passionate, high-energy individual to help build the cloud datacenters and networks that enable the world’s largest online services.

The Director, Global Program Management is a key role within our Global Datacenter Build Management (DCBM) team. The DCBM team is responsible for overseeing our lease construction delivery program and managing colo fit-out efforts (telecom, electrical, mechanical, and ancillary spaces) across our entire datacenter portfolio (Build and Leased facilities). The Director, Global Program Management will manage a high performing team that drives businesses standardization, operational efficiencies, and process improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  1. Influence the development and implementation of organizational policies and processes with Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) partners to drive cost savings, enhance customer service, and improve asset management.
  2. Lead and coordinate meetings and activities with stakeholders, cost managers, and regional leaders. Identify opportunities to share lessons learned and integrate them with global execution strategies.
  3. Provide strategic direction and coaching to internal and external partners to resolve complex issues impacting global construction projects, including goal setting, adherence to business processes, vendor management, and fostering cross-group collaboration aligned with project milestones.
  4. Analyze and recommend innovative delivery options using industry best practices and trends. Support the creation, implementation, and enforcement of organizational procedures and standards.
  5. Collaborate with regional leaders to drive efficiencies and improvements across the global portfolio, focusing on optimizing cycle times, costs, execution, and delivery methods.
  6. Manage global OKRs, KPIs, and metrics to monitor portfolio health, identify areas for improvement, and enhance delivery performance.
  7. Participate in program development initiatives for datacenter construction and integration teams by improving existing processes and driving efficiencies aligned with Microsoft CO+I core priorities.
  8. Establish and maintain robust business and operational practices for regional and global teams.
  9. Align business and team objectives with stakeholder expectations and requirements throughout the project delivery lifecycle.
  10. Organize and lead initiatives such as “lessons learned,” “Lean,” and “Kaizen” across the global portfolio, leveraging insights from regional execution and operational teams to promote continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Construction Project Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field AND 12+ years related experience
  2. OR equivalent experience.
  3. Proven experience in program management, preferably within the datacenter or construction industry.
  4. Strong leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with regional leaders and cross-functional teams.
  5. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on improving efficiency and driving results.
  6. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to align expectations and requirements with key stakeholders.

Additional Requirements:

  1. Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
  2. Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Construction Project Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field AND 15+ years related experience
  2. OR equivalent experience.
  3. 15+ years experience working on data center projects.
  4. 10+ years project management experience.
  5. 10+ years people management experience.

Construction Project Management M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $129,200 - $273,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $162,000 - $299,400 per year.
