Job SummaryUnder the general direction of UCSF Fresno's Chief Administrative Officer and in partnership with the AssistantDean for Research, this position is responsible for providing effective and efficient clinical research administrationand organizational leadership, management, and services to faculty and principal investigators with clinicalstudies. The manager ensures successful service delivery of the Clinical Research Center (CRC) and the UCSFclinical research coordination team located at the Community Regional Medical Centers (CRMC) and at theCommunity Cancer Institute (CCI). The CRC oversees the largest portfolio of clinical trials across UCSF Fresnoacademic departments and ensures regulatory compliance for all trials, successful recruitment, and follow-through to study closure. The CRC is a recharge center that requires that the manager have both clinicalresearch operations and financial acumen. The manager is required to cultivate effective working relationshipswith faculty, central campus units, external sponsoring agencies, and community affiliate partners.The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.To learn more about the benefits of working at UCSF, including total compensation, please visit: Department DescriptionUCSF Fresno is a regional campus of UCSF School of Medicine and is a major educational, research, and clinicaltraining site in the Central San Joaquin Valley. The aims of the campus are to improve the health of residents inthe Valley by addressing the severe shortage of physicians in the area. Currently, UCSF Fresno annually trainsapproximately 250 medical residents and 50 sub specialty fellows. More than 300 medical students also spendtime learning from the faculty at UCSF Fresno. These learners are taught by 650 core and volunteer faculty,many of whom also conduct clinical and translational research consistent with the missions of the academicmedical center.The Clinical Research Center (CRC) is a dedicated research facility that supports UCSF Fresno facultyinvestigations and trainees to conduct government, industry, and private-sponsored outpatient research andinpatient clinical trials at Community Regional Medical Center. Investigators are provided the full array ofservices from feasibility of the study to initiation to patient follow-through when required after a trial is closed.Required QualificationsAdvanced Degree in Health Science, Natural Science, Health Administration or related field and/orequivalent experience/training6 + years of directly related experience (including 3 years of financial management)5+ years of Lead/Supervisor or Manager experience, including experience with employee conflict resolutionCertification by the Society of Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA) and the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRA)Broad knowledge of clinical research concepts, federal, state and local laws and regulations, and industry requirements regarding the proper conduct of clinical trialsBroad theoretical and operational knowledge of clinical and patient safety standards and regulations relating to clinical researchApplies knowledge of theoretical concepts and business best practices in a trial settingProven ability to translate clinical research philosophy into direct and indirect clinical input to design, planning, initiation, execution and reporting of clinical trialsBroad knowledge of all phases of clinical research, from study startup through closeout and primary publication and presentation. Knowledgeable about clinical studies involving complex trial design issuesDemonstrated management skills supervising, maintaining and developing clinical staff within the study team, and acting as a mentor for professional staff and conducting reviews and performance evaluations. Effectively managers multiple important prioritiesDemonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other cross-functional teams and people with a wide range of educational backgrounds. Demonstrated ability to interface with commercial, regulatory, federal and other members of an extended study teamDemonstrates excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Creatively addresses complex or new problems. Proven skills to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify multiple options for resolutionStrong communicator; includes verbal and written, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising and counseling skills.
