24-25 Engagement Specialist (Temporary)

Position: Engagement Specialist, 7 hrs. a day

Location: Ellensburg High School/Morgan Middle School (2 positions available)

Reports to: Building Principal

* This is a grant-funded position that will be reviewed annually to ensure continued funding. The

position's continuation is contingent upon the renewal of a grant.

Purpose:

Provide for the safety and welfare of students during non-classroom activities; support efforts to

minimize the frequency and/or severity of harmful incidents; maintaining vigilance for potential

discriminatory harassment and identifying potential pervasive issues; implement safety procedures

under the supervision of the assigned school administrator, and communicate observations and/or

incidents that have a potential impact on the general well being of students, school personnel, and/or

visitors.

Essential Functions:

* Actively monitor hallways, bathrooms, stairwells, and other common areas to ensure a safe, inclusive and orderly environment. * Actively listen to students' concerns and provide guidance or direct them to appropriate support staff, such as counselors. * Address and de-escalate conflicts using restorative practices and SEL principles. * Enforce school policies, including attendance, tardiness, and behavior expectations. * Report safety concerns or potential bullying incidents to the appropriate school administrator. * Build positive relationships with students to foster trust and open communication. * Serve as a mentor and role model, encouraging respectful and inclusive behavior. * Promote SEL skills such as empathy, self-awareness, and responsible decision-making in interactions with students. * Assist in implementing SEL activities, such as morning check-ins or proactive hallway supervision. * Work closely with teachers, administrators, and support staff to maintain a positive school culture. * Provide input on strategies to address student behavior and improve the overall school climate. * Assist in monitoring student transitions during arrival, dismissal, and lunch periods. * Support school events or emergency procedures as needed.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

The role requires specific skill-based competencies, including administering first aid, operating standard

office equipment, utilizing pertinent software applications, and preparing and maintaining accurate

records. It involves performing basic math, reading manuals, writing documents in prescribed formats,

presenting information to others, and analyzing situations to define issues and draw conclusions,

particularly during times of conflict and emergencies.

Flexibility is essential, as the role requires working independently with others in diverse circumstances,

handling varied data types and purposes, and operating equipment using standardized methods.

Collaboration with a significant diversity of individuals and groups is necessary, along with the ability to

analyze issues, create action plans, and solve problems based on organizational objectives.

Candidates must demonstrate abilities such as adapting to changing work priorities, communicating

effectively with diverse groups, maintaining confidentiality, working collaboratively as part of a team,

managing detailed information and data, and serving as a peer leader.

Responsibilities include working under limited supervision while following standardized practices and

methods, leading and coordinating others, and operating within a defined budget. The role may involve

utilizing resources from other work units to fulfill job functions and regularly impacting the

organization's services.

Physical demands include occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling, as well as some stooping,

kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity. The job typically requires 10% sitting, 60%

walking, and 30% standing, with exposure to temperature extremes and some risk of injury or illness.

Minimum Qualifications:

* High school diploma or equivalent * Authorized to work in the United States * Must qualify to work in the proximity of children under the conditions of a WSP/FBI background check. * First aid/CPR certified or willingness to obtain * Applicant must attend Right Response De-Escalation Training

Preferred Qualifications:

* Prior experience with student discipline, behavior management, and/or counseling * Prior experience in school settings with an understanding of Social Emotional Learning principles. * Previous successful experience working with secondary-aged children * Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters in an ethical manner * Demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships and interact positively with all school district staff, students and parents * Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and independently, take initiative, recognize and adjust priorities as needed, and meet strict deadlines in a fast paced environment * Demonstrated strong interpersonal, oral and written communication, and organizational skills * Demonstrated ability to produce, organize and maintain accurate records * Bilingual skills preferred

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

* Representation: Hourly, classified, non-represented position * Salary Range: 24.00 per hour * Benefits: SEBB Benefits, DRS
