Psychiatry (General) - A non-profit, multicultural, community health center 30 minutes North of Boston is looking to add a psychiatrist to the behavioral health team. This center is the largest provider of primary care, behavioral health, eye care, and dental services in one of the most medically under-served communities in Massachusetts.


The Psychiatrist will provide direct clinical service to patients, clinical supervision to interns and staff, be involved in quality improvement activities, other administrative activities, and help to develop programming as needed by the director of behavioral health.


Core clinical duties will include:

  1. Psychiatric evaluations, consultation, and treatment of referred patients.
  2. Prescribing medications and follow-up medication visits.
  3. Provision of psychotherapy and participation in mental health intake conferences and case presentations.
  4. Consultation and evaluation of patients regarding crisis situations and admission to a psychiatric mental health and/or substance abuse inpatient unit.

Treatment services provided will be based on credentialing privileges, related to areas of expertise, and follow accepted guidelines and best practices. Services will be coordinated with other providers involved in the patient’s care, including other center providers, the PCP, and providers from outside agencies. The psychiatrist will take a team-oriented approach to patient care and fully participate in integrating behavioral health care with primary care.


The psychiatrist may be asked to supervise interns and staff and present at trainings. The psychiatrist will participate in ongoing quality improvement efforts and be involved in program development and community consultation.


The psychiatrist will have previous experience in diagnosing, evaluating, and treating patients with psychiatric disorders and experience in treating psychiatric illness with medication, in addition to being comfortable with psychotherapeutic modalities. The psychiatrist will have demonstrated sensitivity working with under-served multicultural populations in a community setting.
