Heavy Equipment Operator II Job at City of Palm Bay in Palm Bay

Graduation from high school or GED and 3 years of experience in the operation of heavy motorized equipment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

Possess a valid State of Florida issued Unrestricted Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License with special endorsements as required and have an acceptable safe driving record.

Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared emergency and/or declared emergency. On an incident-by-incident basis, the employee’s Department Head will make the determination as to who will be required to work.

Job Responsibilities

Under limited supervision, performs specialized skilled work in the operation of motorized heavy equipment, including Motor Grader, RT Excavator, Dozer, Trackhoe, Truck Mounted Combination Vacuum/Jetter Cleaning Unit, and other equipment under the Heavy Equipment Operator I classification. Responsibilities include:

1. Operating motorized heavy equipment for construction and maintenance of roads, drainage projects, and utilities infrastructure.
2. Performing manual labor on transportation and drainage projects, including pouring and forming concrete, installing drainage pipes, and maintaining water and wastewater lines.
3. Inspecting drainage or utilities construction projects to ensure compliance with specifications and addressing citizen complaints.
4. Maintaining logs and records of maintenance and repair work, completing work orders, and performing data entry into the Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
5. Ensuring safety at work sites by inspecting areas before beginning work and maintaining equipment.
6. Responding to citizen and staff complaints with courtesy and tact.

Additional Job Functions

May be assigned to shift work, required to work weekends and holidays, and respond to after-hour calls. May be required to operate a dump truck or transport materials with a heavy-duty trailer. Responsible for regular attendance, arriving to work on time, and presenting a neat appearance.
