Position Overview
Under the direction of the Custodial Manager and/or his/her designee, the custodian will be responsible for custodial operations including cleaning and maintenance of different buildings of the College’s campus. The custodian will work with the custodial staff to effectively meet the physical needs of the College and support its overall mission like working in different buildings from time to time.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Perform general custodial duties like sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, cleaning of restrooms and restocking paper and soap products.
- Removal of interior and exterior trash that is brought to on-campus dumpsters or compactors for disposal.
- Perform detailed cleaning services, like carpet cleaning, window cleaning and stain removal.
- Emergency response for water restoration issues that arise like floods and leaks.
- Transportation of custodial and restoration equipment from building to building.
- Perform routine maintenance to custodial supplies and equipment.
- Report issues with the facility that are seen while performing your duties.
- Custodians must wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) to do the job, e.g., gloves, masks, goggles if needed.
- Perform minor repairs to the facility like shutting off a valve to stop a leak or repairing a flooring issue that is a trip hazard.
- Ensure clean, neat and orderly work areas, and maintain janitor closets and supplies to ensure compliance with safety regulations, OSHA and SDS Standards.
- Assist with snow removal around building entrances.
- Must be reliable, responsible, and dependable to fulfill obligations.
- Special projects as assigned.
- Assist with events, including set-ups and monitoring trash and restrooms during events, keeping them clean and stocked at all times.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma is required.
- Associates Degree or Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
- Able to operate custodial equipment.
- Fluent in English and able to communicate with others.
- Higher Education or multi-building property management experience preferred.
- 3 years of experience in custodian/cleaning services is preferred.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
Physical Requirements
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- The employee must have full range of mobility in upper and lower body and be able to reach overhead. Be able to work in various positions, including, but not limited to, stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling and squatting for extended periods of time. Be able to lift, pull and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks.

This is an on-campus position as employees are essential in order to provide a fully on-campus, residential college experience for our students and the community.
