POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Walker School recognizes that an inviting environment promotes educational attainment, and School Custodians play a vital role in creating one. We are looking for a dynamic, friendly, and detail-oriented person to join our custodial team. This position is responsible for performing custodial duties, minor maintenance, and other miscellaneous duties in order to ensure that the Walker School is maintained in a healthy, safe, and sanitary manner. All work is accomplished in the context of the mission, values, and core values of the Walker School.

QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS

The ideal candidate should be available to work Monday-Friday from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM with the flexibility to work overtime.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

1. Cleaning
   Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, washing windows, scrubbing tables and desktops, emptying trash cans, and sanitizing washrooms. School Custodians do whatever tasks are needed to keep the facility looking good and functioning properly.
2. Grounds upkeep
   School Custodians often are charged with raising the U.S. flag each morning. Other duties outside the building may include mowing grass, trimming bushes, weeding, removing debris from playgrounds and parking areas, setting up traffic cones and directing carline.
3. Maintenance
   When a light bulb needs to be changed, a window unstuck, a soap dispenser filled, a ceiling tile replaced, or a coat of paint added, School Custodians take the lead. They also may perform services on pipes, heaters, air conditioners, and wiring.
4. Safety
   School Custodians keep a lookout for potential problems, such as cracked sidewalks or faulty chairs. They abide by institutional and governmental guidelines regarding procedures and safety measures.
5. Assisting staff
   Teachers and administrators may ask School Custodians to perform tasks such as moving furniture, fixing broken lockers, unloading deliveries, and handling an unexpected spill.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Experience in the custodial field is desirable. Knowledge of proper cleaning methods required
• Ability to perform custodial duties in a safe and efficient manner
• Capacity to lift 50 pounds using safe lifting techniques
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the position
• Effective oral skills commensurate with the responsibilities of the position
