Job Requirements:

The phlebotomist is responsible for obtaining blood specimens from patients. Individuals must be proficient in venipuncture and capillary puncture. They must follow laboratory policy on proper identification of patients and handling of obtained specimens. Responsibilities encompass provision of care to patients from neonates to geriatrics. Individuals must be willing to cross-train to other job descriptions and float to other departments to meet the needs of the facility. Recognizes the signs and symptoms of stroke and calls a stroke alert overhead. Verbalizes stroke alert process. Draws blood for stroke panel and delivers specimens to laboratory on stroke alert patients. Maintains currency in stroke knowledge by completing the annual 1 hour online training.

Qualifications

  • One year experience as a hospital laboratory phlebotomist or graduate of an approved phlebotomy training course.
