The Beacom College of Computer and Cyber Sciences at Dakota State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor, full-time (9-month) faculty position in cybersecurity. This position will provide expertise and experience in key technical areas, a strong understanding of cybersecurity policies and compliance, and respond to real-world security challenges with academic innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses covering a variety of cybersecurity disciplines, emphasizing hands-on learning.
  • Develop innovative, applied technical labs and real-world learning experiences for students.
  • Conduct research and publish in cybersecurity areas related to technical expertise and policy development.
  • Pursue external grant and funding opportunities to support research and student engagement.
  • Mentor and advise students on projects, research, and career development.
  • Collaborate with academic and industry partners to foster experiential learning.

Key Areas of Technical Expertise (One or more of the following):

  • Network Security: Design and defense of secure networks, firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and secure communication protocols.
  • Penetration Testing & Red Teaming: Vulnerability analysis, exploit development, and offensive security techniques.
  • Cryptography: Encryption techniques, key management, and applications of cryptographic methods to protect sensitive data.
  • Cyber-Secure System Administration & Blue Teaming: Implementation of industry standard technologies in secure business computing environments.
  • Incident Response & Digital Forensics: Analyzing, mitigating, and documenting security incidents using forensic tools.
  • Software and Application Security: Secure coding practices, threat modeling, and vulnerability management.
  • SCADA /OT Systems: Security for critical infrastructure, industrial control systems, and operational technology.
  • Cloud Security: Identity and access management (IAM), secure architecture, and data protection in cloud environments.
  • Secure Development Lifecycle (SDLC): Integrating security into the software development process, DevSecOps.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a closely related field by the start date of the appointment (ABD candidates may be considered).
  • Effective written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
