POSITION PURPOSE
Under the general supervision of the Director of Student Services, the physical therapist evaluates students with motor and/or sensory disabilities in addition to planning and implementing interventions so that these students may access the educational curriculum in the least restrictive environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assess identified students to determine whether there is an educationally significant need for physical therapy.
  • Participate on the Individual Education Plan (IEP) team to establish goals, objectives and the length of time required to achieve the goals.
  • Schedule and deliver the physical therapy interventions with students as determined in the IEP.
  • Consult with special education teachers, general education teachers, paraprofessionals, speech and occupational therapists, physical education teachers, nurses, school administrators, bus drivers and other school personnel as well as parents to provide information and recommendations regarding students with physical disabilities.
  • Communicate with physicians, and service agencies regarding orthotics and adaptive equipment needs for the student.
  • Instruct classroom personnel (teachers/paraprofessionals) in safe transfer techniques.
  • Instruct and supervise classroom personnel in carrying out specific programs for individual students.
  • Monitor the students' progress toward goals and objectives and provide written reviews every semester.
  • Assist students in developing feelings of self-worth and in making social adjustments that permit them to cope with disabilities.
  • Maintain appropriate, confidential records and provide timely reports.
  • Order and maintain an adequate inventory of materials and supplies.
  • Assist with public awareness activities that lead to a better understanding of the needs of exceptional children.
  • Keep abreast of new information, ideas and techniques in pediatric physical therapy and practice in educational environments.
  • Obtain prior approval for all special activities and expenditures.
  • Ensure that school district policies are observed during all activities.
  • Adhere to all district health and safety policies.
  • The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of best practices in physical therapy for school aged children.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding physical therapy for students.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to work effectively with community organizations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
  • Appropriately operate all equipment as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • IN State Certification as an Physical Therapist.
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to carry 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations.
  • Ability to see for the purpose of reading laws and codes, rules and policies and other printed matter.
  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
  • Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation.
  • Ability to operate office equipment.
  • Ability to reach in all directions.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
• 184 days per year
13-16 hours per week
Pay range $58 to $65 per hour
