PRIMARY PURPOSE: Responsible for the accurate collection, accounting, recording, and reporting of daily meals and money.

Qualifications

Educations/Certifications:
High School Diploma or GED preferred
Food Handler's Permit required or obtained within 30 days of employment

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Effective planning and organizational skills
Working knowledge of food preparation and handling
Ability to accurately and quickly perform basic math functions
Ability to read, write and speak English
Basic knowledge of National School Breakfast and School Lunch Program regulations
Ability to work accurately while meeting strict time-lines
Ability to operate a ten key calculator
Experience in handling and accounting for money

Major Responsibilities And Duties:

  • Collect money and give correct change for meals and purchases, Review Students Rosters for program verification.
  • Project a positive attitude with all customers.
  • Maintain a clean work area throughout the day.
  • Keep cash drawer neat and orderly.
  • Be knowledgeable of District policy statement and meal patterns as they pertain to assigned school.
  • Take trash out, as required.
  • Assist in the washing of dishes and pots/pans, as required.
  • Communicate with Supervisor to ensure quality standards of operation.
  • Abide by all District and Industry Safety rules and regulations.
  • Count money, balance cash drawer and complete cashier's daily return cards.
  • Actively participate in educational opportunities for personal and professional enrichment through workshops, conferences, and scheduled/unscheduled meetings.
  • Ensure that equipment is stored in a safe and hazard free environment.
  • Wear prescribed uniform and maintain a high standard of appearance.
  • Promote teamwork and interaction with fellow employees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.

EQUIPMENT USED:
Standard cafeteria equipment as appropriate and needed to perform job assignments.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Mental Demands: Ability to read and interpret documents such as menus, safety codes, operating and maintenance instruction and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate effectively. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hand and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must squat, stoop, or kneel. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

Other:
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community; Punctual and regular attendance is required.

Performance of this job will be evaluated with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of food service personnel.
