Our client, a municipal government entity responsible for public infrastructure projects, including roads, sidewalks, parks, wastewater, and stormwater systems is looking to hire a Civil Engineer II.
The engineering department oversees project planning, design, construction, and maintenance to ensure the community's infrastructure meets safety and regulatory standards.
Position Overview
This role involves leading and performing a variety of municipal engineering tasks, including project planning, design, construction oversight, and administration.
The Civil Engineer works closely with the Public Works Director/City Engineer and supervises technical staff, contractors, and consultants.
The role requires strong leadership, problem-solving, and technical expertise to manage public works projects efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee and manage public works projects valued at $5M+
Supervise and coordinate technical staff in project design and construction
Prepare project designs, specifications, and contract documents
Administer project construction contracts, including payments and change orders
Conduct and oversee inspections of construction sites
Coordinate grant applications for infrastructure funding
Review engineering plans and building permit applications
Manage the use and training of CAD software in the department
Investigate public concerns, conduct field inspections, and ensure compliance with regulations
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
6-8 years of civil engineering experience, including supervisory roles
Professional Engineer (PE) license in any state + ability to obtain within an Iowa PE license within 6 months
Valid driver's license
