About the Organization
The Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park (AMM) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating the public on the area’s rich maritime heritage and the ecology of the Chesapeake Bay. Through engaging exhibits, hands-on educational programs, and community events, AMM fosters an appreciation for maritime history and the environment.

Position Summary
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the museum, ensuring financial sustainability, and enhancing organizational effectiveness. Reporting directly to the President/CEO, the COO will manage internal operations, finance, HR, and facilities, allowing the President/CEO to focus on strategic growth and external relations.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership
  1. Oversee daily operations, ensuring alignment with AMM’s mission and strategic goals.
  2. Develop and implement efficient operational policies and procedures.
  3. Supervise key department heads, including finance, HR, facilities, and visitor services.
  4. Performance Management: Oversee evaluation, measuring, and monitoring systems for the organization and its people, technologies, processes, grants, initiatives, and programs.
AMM Programs
  1. K-12 environmental education programs
  2. Box of Rain – year-round maritime mentoring program serving underserved youth
  3. Nature based preschool (in development)
  4. Museum exhibits
  5. AMM’s Archives & Library
  6. Skipjack Wilma Lee
  7. Adult programs including winter lecture series, paddle programs, boat building
Financial Management
  1. Partner with the President/CEO and Board Treasurer to oversee budgeting, financial planning, and reporting.
  2. Ensure compliance with nonprofit financial regulations and best practices.
  3. Identify and implement cost-effective strategies to optimize financial resources.
  4. Work closely with development staff to align fundraising efforts with financial needs.
Human Resources & Talent Management
  1. Develop and oversee HR policies, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
  2. Promote a positive and productive work environment.
  3. Ensure compliance with labor laws and nonprofit HR best practices.
  4. Implement professional development initiatives for staff and volunteers.
Facilities & Capital Projects
  1. Oversee the maintenance and management of museum facilities, including 12-acre waterfront park.
  2. Develop long-term capital improvement and maintenance plans.
  3. Ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
  4. Manage relationships with vendors, contractors, and community partners.
  5. Supervise maintenance and custodial responsibilities.
Board & Stakeholder Engagement
  1. Work closely with the Board of Directors, providing reports and operational insights.
  2. Support the President/CEO in strategic planning and governance initiatives.
  3. Represent AMM at community and industry events as needed.
