I. TITLE: Special Program Aide
II. QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Minimum of 48 college credits or a minimum score of 460 on the ParaPro Praxis.
B. Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed.
C. Ability to work with staff, students, and the public.
D. Patient, yet firm.
E. Able to lift up to 50 pounds and transfer heavier students with the assistance of appropriate equipment.
F. Previous experience preferred, but not mandatory.
G. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
III. REPORTS TO: Building Administrator.
IV. JOB GOALS:
To support the delivery of School District 91's written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement.
To work closely with special education students on a regular basis to provide them with the support they need to gain full benefits from the District's special education program.
V. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Prepares for classroom activities under the supervision of the Teacher.
B. Works individually or with small groups of students to reinforce materials initially introduced by the teacher.
C. Assists in drill work.
D. Assists with adapted curriculum.
E. Assists small group of groups of students in library, computer, etc..
F. Assists individual students in need of special attention.
G. Assists in data collection of student's progress.
H. Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up by the teacher.
I. Assists teacher with non-instructional classroom duties, such as snack, toilet, and clothing routines.
J. Helps adapt curriculum and supplementary materials for use in the classroom.
K. Strives to improve and maintain job skills through inservice training programs and other means.
L. Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
M. Has regular and predictable attendance.
VI. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Performs all other duties as assigned.
VII. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a full-time position scheduled for 34 hours per week during the school year. Wages will be in accordance with the Classified Salary Schedule as a Grade 5 -$15.91 or $16.69 per hour depending on experience.
This is an "at will" position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The "employment at will" policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 91.
VIII. EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Building Administrator in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on the evaluation of classified personnel.
