ACCOUNTING MANAGER
Summary:
Our client, an established management company in Los Angeles, is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to lead its Accounting Department. Reporting directly to the Controller, this role is responsible for overseeing daily accounting operations for a high volume of books and guiding a team of six staff members.
This position requires a strategic thinker who continuously seeks opportunities to enhance accounting processes and deliver meaningful financial insights to key decision-makers.
The Accounting Manager will oversee the timely and accurate preparation of financial reports in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and industry-specific guidelines. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, and familiarity with industry reimbursement principles is a plus. Additionally, the role includes reviewing financial statements for multiple entities with varying revenue levels.
Responsibilities:
Oversee the preparation and review of monthly and annual financial statements.
Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial reports, including recording all monthly accruals, amortizations, depreciations, and recurring adjustments.
Analyze financial transactions and report any significant discrepancies to the Controller for appropriate action.
Communicate financial issues to facility administrators and oversee the resolution process.
Review and analyze monthly Profit and Loss (P&L) variances.
Examine the year-end financial package for more than 40 entities, ensuring all reconciliations and supporting schedules are accurate and complete.
Assist the Controller in budget preparation.
Ensure timely filing and payment of all mandatory taxes and licenses, including use tax, city licenses, and property tax.
Manage external accounting, financial reporting, and auditing processes, including:
Overseeing the preparation of Medicare and Medi-Cal cost reports by external consultants and managing Medicare and Medi-Cal audits.
Coordinating with external CPA firms for entity tax return preparation.
Overseeing audits related to personal property tax returns and city business taxes.
Support the Controller and CFO in preparing internal management and ad hoc reports as needed.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
4+ years of accounting experience in companies with revenues exceeding $50 million.
Proven ability to supervise accounting staff, including prior management of at least three direct reports.
Experience managing accounting for more than 20 entities strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge of government accounting regulations with the ability to research, interpret, and apply them effectively.
Analytical thinker with the ability to work independently and make informed decisions.
Excellent time management, organizational, and multitasking skills with a track record of meeting deadlines.
Effective communicator, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey information clearly.
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
Exceptional research and problem-solving abilities.
Highly skilled using Microsoft Excel.
Positive attitude and team-oriented mindset.
Salary & Benefits:
The compensation range for this role is $100K - $120K depending upon experience.
