The Department of Social Work within the Gallaspy Family College of Education and Human Development at Northwestern State University of Louisiana seeks applicants for a 12-month unclassified/faculty position of Department Head with academic rank/tenure track. Academic rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications: Applicants must hold a Doctorate in Social Work (DSW or PhD) or a Doctorate in a related field with a master's degree in social work from a CSWE-accredited program with licensed or licensable in the state of Louisiana at the LMSW or LCSW level or a master's degree in social work from a CSWE accredited program with licensed or licensable in the state of Louisiana at the LMSW or LCSW level. Applicants must have at least one year of administrative experience in academic settings. Applicants must have knowledge about the CSWE accreditation process. Applicants should have teaching experience at the BSW and/or MSW level and scholarly production to warrant an appointment as assistant professor or higher. Applicants should provide evidence of skills in teaching, recruitment, personnel management, fiscal management, scheduling of classes, student retention, assessment processes, accreditation, and current knowledge of web-based course management systems. Responsibilities: Assuming academic and fiscal oversight of the Department of Social Work, including supervision of full-time faculty, administrative staff, and adjuncts. Serving as the instructional leader of the department, involving creativity, public relations, faculty development, curriculum development, program promotion, and the quest for academic excellence. Scheduling classes to achieve cost-effectiveness and student success. Participating in official Northwestern State University functions as designated by the President or Vice President (e.g., commencement, N-Side View, convocation, faculty inservice). Demonstrating a commitment to excellence in teaching, service, professional growth, and scholarship. Participating in scholarly activities appropriate to the discipline. Effectively collaborating with Title IV-E Louisiana Department of Child and Family Services professionals. Supporting the Dean, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and President in the goals of the college and university. Teaching classes to promote academic excellence; teaching load of 12 credit hours per year (spring, summer, and fall). Maintaining a 40-hour work week as required by university policy. Creating and maintaining a positive, student-oriented, and caring academic atmosphere. Maintaining collegial relationships with peers and colleagues throughout the University. Complying with the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors Compensatory Time Policy for unclassified annual leave-earning employees. Complying with mandates of the Constitution and laws of the State of Louisiana regulating state employee activity and employment. Representing the department and Gallaspy College of Education and Human Development professionally in all activities. Maintaining confidentiality in accordance with federal laws and program policy.
