Postdoctoral Fellow
who is responsible for initiating and carrying out research projects in collaboration with a research team. The role involves pursuing research along a focused line of inquiry and developing a manuscript. This position will support the Department of Defense/Uniformed Services University Brain Tissue Repository ( BTR ), which aims to better understand the effects of traumatic brain injury and promote the overall brain health of the warfighter. Using the best science, they support service members and their families in caring for military personnel after a head injury. The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic, and government clients by administering, managing, and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners, allowing military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.
Responsibilities Assist in designing, developing, executing, and implementing scientific research and/or development. Investigate the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories to potential inventions and products. Perform specialized laboratory research utilizing experimental protocols involving specialized procedures. Collect and handle samples and keep detailed records of experiments. Assist with the preparation of data for presentations at scientific meetings and for publication in journals. May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor, including attendance of and participation in required training for the role.
Qualifications Education and Experience Doctoral degree required, preferably in Neuroscience. Minimum of 0-5 years of experience required.
Experience with neurodegenerative diseases is preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of the appropriate scientific area; ability to analyze and interpret data. Quantitative analysis experience required. Experience with right field and confocal microscopy required. Immunohistochemistry experience is required. Knowledge of statistical analysis techniques; experience with R or GraphPad Prism. Strong background in Neuroscience. Python or MATLAB experience is preferred. Ability to obtain a T1/Public Trust Background Check. Physical Capabilities Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods. Work Environment This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting. Compensation The annual salary range for this position is $50,100-$60,000.
