TITLE: Anticipated Part-time School Nurse (This is a new part-time position through the PEA grant.)
QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Valid New Jersey State license to practice as a registered nurse. 2. New Jersey Certificate - School Nurse Practitioner N.J.S.A. 18A:26-2, N.J.A.C. 6:8-4.3 3. Required criminal history background and proof of U.S. Citizenship or legal resident alien status
REPORTS TO:
School Principal or other appropriately certificated supervisor as designated by the Superintendent.
JOB GOAL:
To provide the fullest possible educational opportunity for each district student by minimizing absence due to illness and creating a climate of health and well-being in the district schools.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Conducts and/or assists school physician in conducting school health services, including physical examinations, immunization, and tests for hearing and vision, and other appropriate medical tests. 2. Assumes responsibility for selection and referral of students in need of medical and dental care. 3. Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on school medical matters. 4. Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students. Input all information into the student information management system on a daily basis. 5. Screens students on a regular basis to detect health needs. 6. Assumes authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered injury or emergency illness. Administer first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures. 7. Visits students' homes when necessary. 8. Participates with school staff in developing and implementing total school health program. 9. Contacts homes of students referred by principal. 10. Advises on modification of the educational program to meet health needs of individual students. 11. Prepares and submits reports for the superintendent and the State Board of Health. 12. Implements policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases. 13. Maintains a daily log of students visiting the Nurses' Office. 14. Assists Child Study Team in developing programs for handicapped students. 15. Serves as resource person to faculty and staff and teaches health classes where appropriate. 16. Advises teachers on health matters, particularly regarding screening for student health defects. 17. Assists school personnel in establishing sanitary conditions in schools. 18. Attends as assigned committee meetings and conferences regarding health service and health curriculum. 19. Participates in in-service training programs. 20. Upholds and enforces school rules, administrative regulations, and board policy. 21. Maintains familiarity with current trends and practices in the field of school health and continuously improves professional competence through in-service programs, performance evaluations, and his/her individual professional improvement plan. 22. Performs duties which are within the scope of his/her employment and certifications as assigned by his/her supervisor in accordance with N.J. State Law, State Board of Education Rules and Regulations, Deptford Township board of Education Policies and contractual obligations. 23. SEMI eligible services are to be accurately entered in the online service documentation tool on a daily basis. 24. Any other duties that may be assigned.
