Position Summary
Licensed School Nurse at Glenbard North Qualifications
Current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an endorsement as a School Nurse at the high school grade level Knowledge and practices as it relates to supporting (all) students' needs Bilingual preferred Reports To
Direct report to the Assistant Principal for Student Services and Principal (or designee) in assigned high school. Indirect report to the District Assistant Director fo Student Services. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide direct nursing services and health counseling to students and employees. Review and maintain complete, current medical, dental, and immunization data on every student. Develop procedures and provide for crisis intervention for acute illness, injury and emotional disturbance. Maintain a record of each student's visit to the Health Center or other service performed for a student by the Health Center. Assist indigent families in securing physical and other examinations from appropriate private and public health agencies. Coordinate mandated vision and hearing testing and follow-up. Prepare and distribute to appropriate staff a list of students' pertinent health problems. Compile accident statistics and confer periodically with administration and school personnel to assure corrective action. Assist in filing student insurance claims. Aid in identifying handicapped students in vocational and special education programs. Coordinate physical education exemptions on a limited or long-term basis. Select and train responsible students to work as aides in Health Services. Act as a consultant and resource person to the staff for the total health education program. Participate as a contributing member of the Pupil Personnel Services team. Maintain the highest level of ethical and professional demeanor with students and staff consistent with the Sexual Harassment, Equal Educational Opportunity, Ethics, Use of Electronic Media, and other appropriate policies of the District. Demonstrates effective communication skills when interacting with immediate supervisors, parents, students, peers, and other school related reference groups. Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy. Provides appropriate supervision and takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Does not administer corporal punishment or touch students. Other duties as assigned (and related to the job described). Knowledge and Skills
High level of knowledge in performing medical assessments, health care procedures, and emergency treatment techniques. Ability to maintain student health, medication administration, accident reports, communicable disease reports, and physician release records. Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as correspondence, surveys and electronic media. Ability to write professional communications. Ability to present information effectively and to respond to questions from individuals and groups Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and community members Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in written form Ability to complete mathematical operations and apply concepts of basic mathematics Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists Ability to maintain current job skills as directed, especially in technology-related activities Ability to perform essential duties with an awareness of school district requirements and School Board policies Physical Demands and Work Environment

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. In addition, the ability to withstand long-term use of video display terminals (VDT) is required. The employee may occasionally lift up to 30 pounds such as reference books. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The pace of work tasks would be considered as fast. Work is usually conducted at one job site, however, on occasion, this employee will be required to attend meetings, conferences, or workshops and events at other sites as assigned.
